Hi I'm Shannon and I'm a book-a-holic. OK so I know it is not a word but its so true. I love reading and I have a serious book buying/borrowing problem. I read everyday and there is no such thing as no time to read for me, but I always feel like there is not enough time to read.

I’ve decided to start a little Tumblr called Read With Me. It will be updates of the book(s) I am currently reading with full on spoiler reactions to the pages as I read them and perhaps a review at the end. We’ll see how this goes.  Read With Me

Succubus Blues
Succubus Blues - Richelle Mead

Georgina Kincaid, Book 1

I Picked Up This Book Because: Paranormal Love Crew monthly read

The Characters:

Georgina Kincaid:
Sahil Roy:
Roman, Seth, other friends

The Story:

I can not pinpoint a specific reason I can not get into this book. What I do know is I put it down after almost two months and haven’t picked it up in almost another month. I like Georgina and I have my suspicions about what is going on but I can’t make myself read and find out more. :-(

Form Twinkle, With Love
From Twinkle, with Love - Sandhya Menon

I Picked Up This Book Because: Fan of the author

The Characters:

Twinkle Mehra:
Sahil Roy:
Maddie Tanaka, Neil Roy, Skid, Aaron, Biraj

The Story:

Aspiring filmmaker Twinkle is urged by her friends to make a move for their annual Midsummer Night Festival. This story is told through diary entries made by Twinkle. I love that she writes her entries as letters to female filmmakers. While she has a clear direction of what her goals are she’s a little oblivious to the world around her. Like growing crush on Sahil or her changing friendship with Maddie. During the filming of her movie I think she learns a lot about herself and how to communicate with others.

I kind of wish this was part of a series. I would like to learn more about Maddie, Aaron and Skid.

Crossed
Crossed - Lacey Silks

Crossed, Book .5

I Picked Up This Book Because: Random iBooks selection

The Characters:

Grace Brooks:
Hunter Reeve:

The Story:

I hate to quit but I can’t. The storytelling is so choppy I constantly find myself rereading because I feel like I missed something. Hunter low key annoyed me and Grace is full of secrets.. I think.

The Highlander’s Promise
The Highlander's Promise - Lynsay Sands

Highland Brides, Book 6

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series.

The Characters:

Aulay Buchanan:
Jetta:

The Story:

I love Lynsay Sands and I love this series. The characters are all so perfectly flawed. Aulay with his scar and Jetta with her memory loss, even the would be murderer had a complex bit of story. I really enjoyed it.

The Evil Queen
The Evil Queen - Gena Showalter

The Forest of Good and Evil, Book 1

I Picked Up This Book Because: I’m a fan of the author.

The Characters:

Everly Morrow:
Roth Charmaine:
Heartly Morrow, Truly Morrow, Farrah Charmaine

The Story:

The writing of this was very complex and multi tiered. I will admit I didn’t love the characters and even the storyline at times. It was a little bit of a lot that felt like a little bit of a lot. I quit this book when I got the ARC, it was a lot of buildup and very little pay off and as I listened to the audiobook I did still find myself feeling this way at times. On the flip side sometimes I was totally engrossed in the story, I just wish I could have been all in all the time.

I am on board for the next story, though I have no idea where this will go.

Death, and the Girl He Loves
Death and the Girl He Loves - Darynda Jones

Darklight, Book 3

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series

The Characters:

Lorelei McAlister:
Jared, Brooklyn, Kenya, Cameron, Grandma, Grandpa, Mac, a bunch more people

The Story:

This title is a misnomer. This book has very little to do with Jared (the angel of death) and focuses almost solely on Lorelei. In this final installment the war is finally here. The time has come to fight. With the aid of some new help Lorelei found while in hiding at boarding school she finds out if she can defeat the takeover of the earth. The resolution was a bit crazy but ultimately creative on Ms Jones’ part. I am sad to see our time in Riley Switch come to an end. This has been a whirlwind of a series and I am very happy about how everything worked out.

Death, Doom and Detention
Death, Doom and Detention - Darynda Jones

Darklight, Book 2

I Picked Up This Book Because: continue the series

The Characters:

Lorelei MacAlister:
Jared, Cameron, Brooklyn, Glitch, Grandma and Grandad

The Story:

This story is well written, the second part of a multi layered mystery surrounding angels, profits and a war. I like Lorelei and crew but I wasn’t fully invested in this installment. I was able to follow the overall story but lost some of the details I’m sure. I will finish the trilogy and hopefully pay more attention to the next installment.

A Few Pecans Short of a Pie
A Few Pecans Short of a Pie - Molly Harper

Southern Eclectic, Book 2.5

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series

The Characters:

Margot:
Kyle:
June, Hazel

The Story:

I love the close family/community Ms Harper has built in this series. I didn’t know Margot and Kyle previously probably because I haven’t read book two yet but I like their reverse romance. They reminded me of a couple I once saw on Grey’s Anatomy but with a much less sad story. Though Margot’s moment with Hazel was heart wrenching. I hope we get to see more of this little family.

Frost and Flame
Frost And Flame - Gena Showalter

Gods of War, Book 2

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series

The Characters:

Bane of Adwaeweth:
Nola Lee:
Zion, Vale London, Knox

The Story:

This is not my favorite series by Ms Showalter. The characters and world building are excellent but there is something about it that just doesn’t completely draw me in. Bane is a many layered character. His own loyalties clouding his judgement at times. I personally feel close to Nola as I have Lupus and Fibromyalgia also however a much more mild version for myself. I feel like I understand her even if my illness hasn’t been as severe. But I digress, a lot of action happens in this book. Travel all over the world and mysteries unfold. Overall I enjoyed it and am ready for the next installment

Getting Played
Getting Played (Getting Some #2) - Andi Arndt, Zachary Webber, Emma Chase

Getting Some, Book 2

I Picked Up This Book Because: Random Audible Escape pick.

The Characters:

Dean Walker:
Lainey Burrows:
Jason Burrows,

The Story:

I really enjoyed Dean and Lainey’s backwards romance. I will admit I wasn’t on board for the hookup with the drummer right after a show thing but as the story continued to unfold I was 100% in. Dean is so sweet, Lainey is the best and she has raised a really sweet son (Jason).

Glass Houses
Glass Houses - Rachel Caine

Morganville, Book 1

Re-Read:
September 19 - September 23 2019

In an effort to fight off the reading slump I’m caught in I decided to revisit Morganville. I’m so glad I made this decision. This book starts off pretty dark as Monica, who must be a sociopath, tires to kill Claire. And then we find out the town is full of and run by vampires. I forgot a lot of what happened along the way so I’m excited by this re-exploration.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before
To All the Boys I've Loved Before - JennyHan

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, Book 1

I Picked Up This Book Because: My cousin is totally in love with the movie so I want to watch it but I also needed to read the book first.

The Characters:

Lara Jean Song Covey:
Margo “Gogo”, Kitty, Peter Kovensky, Josh

The Story:

The book description on Goodreads seems… insufficient. Yes Lara Jean’s break up letters get out and she has to deal with that but it seems to be only a small part of the story. I feel like this story deals a lot more with the relationships between Lara Jean and her sister Margo as she transitions to college in Scotland. Lara Jean and her neighbor/best friend/crush Josh. Lara Jean and Peter Kovensky who have a sorted past and present. The ending seemed rather abrupt. I know there is a sequel but it didn’t seem to really end.

I Want You Back
I Want You Back - Lorelei James
Want You, Book 1

I Picked Up This Book Because: Fan of the author

The Characters:

Jaxson Lund:
Lucy Quaid:
Sometimes demon child Melora Michelle ”Mimi” Lund

The Story:

Super cute second chance story. Jax is a recently retired pro hockey player trying to rebuild his life and bring his family back together. Lucy is Jax’s ex and “baby mama” (her words, not mine) she just wants to live her best life and raise her child but Jax has other ideas. Mimi is a precocious 8 year old interested in trying everything and getting her own way. You can tell from the beginning Jaxson still loves Lucy. He bides his time to talk her into doing what he wants, becoming a whole family, and mostly lets her catch up to him without pushing her. He has overcome a lot and still has a lot to learn but I enjoyed the journey. This was a great start to the series and I can’t wait to see who the next book will be about.

The Random Thoughts:

My baby nephew’s name is Jaxson so that was fun to contend with in my mind. LOL

More Than Enough: Claiming Space for Who You Are(No Matter What They Say)
More Than Enough - Elaine Welteroth
I Picked Up This Book Because: Saw an interview with the author on the Tonight Show.

I’m not sure what I was expecting this book to be but it was way more memoir than I was thinking, which is fine. Elaine’s perspective as a mixed race individual growing up in a world that doesn’t always have a place or know what to do with one was intriguing for me as the auntie of several mixed raced children. She answers lots of questions I want to ask them and though I know their experience might be different it was good to have someone’s answers. We also explore Elaine’s experiences with young love and of course her rise to the top of the publishing industry. I learned quite a lot about an industry that I’ve never given much thought to. The duality of what the public sees and what happens behind closed doors and the toll it takes on individuals is amazing. While this book didn’t inspire me to move mountains it did open my eyes and lead me to think a bit more about my place in the world and my purpose. I wish I had half the conviction and dreams/goals for myself that Elaine had in her early years but I know its not too late and there are still dreams and goals to be discovered for me as well.

The Random Thoughts:

There were some great quotes in this book and the downside to listening to audiobooks is I’m often not listening in a space where it is conducive to jot them down. Fortunately some people added a few to Goodreads.

Bridal Boot Camp (Little Bridge Island 0.5) - Meg Cabot
Little Bridge Island, Book .5

I Picked Up This Book Because: I’m a fan of the author

The Characters:

Roberta “Rob" James:
Ryan Martinez:
Chrissy

The Story:

This book seems like a cute start to a new series. I am looking forward to finding out more about Rob and Ryan. In this short time we see them meet and try/fail to resist their attraction to one another. They both have some things in their past that are talked about but not fleshed out and I’d love to learn more.

The Wedding Party (The Wedding Date #3) - Jasmine Guillory

The Wedding Date, Book 3

I Picked Up This Book Because: continue the series

The Characters:

Maddie:
Theo Stephens:

The Story:

It’s a thin line between love and hate. Or maybe you don’t actually know the person you think you hate. Overall this story was just okay. Theo and Maddie were fine just not my favorite couple. The writing was good the narrator wasn’t great and my attention was not captured. I loved seeing Alexa, Carlos and their significant others again.
