Hi I'm Shannon and I'm a book-a-holic. OK so I know it is not a word but its so true. I love reading and I have a serious book buying/borrowing problem. I read everyday and there is no such thing as no time to read for me, but I always feel like there is not enough time to read.

I’ve decided to start a little Tumblr called Read With Me. It will be updates of the book(s) I am currently reading with full on spoiler reactions to the pages as I read them and perhaps a review at the end. We’ll see how this goes.  Read With Me

Royal Treatment
Royal Treatment - Tracy Wolff

His Royal Hotness, Book 2

I Picked Up This Book Because: I like the author.

The Characters:

Garrett: Former Crown Prince of Wildemar
Lola Barnes: American self made business woman

The Story:

A story of insta lust that turns to love. Garrett is broken from surviving an abduction that lead to three months of torture only to be followed by his father taking away his rightful place in line to become king. Lola happens upon him at a lake while visiting Wildemar to shop for her vintage clothing business. Sparks fly immediately.

I loved Garrett and Lola’s chemistry. Love that Lola is a sassy smarty pants and that Garrett loved her for it. I really loved how they considered each other every step of the way. Even when they got it wrong it came from a place of I want him/her to have/be the best they can.

The story started off really slow for me. So slowly in fact that I didn’t pick the book up at all for a week or so. I’m really glad I gave it a second chance.

Personal Escort
Personal Escort - Ainsley Booth
Billionaire Secrets, Book 2

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series

The Characters:

Cara Russo:
Toby Hunt:

The Story:

A best friend’s little sister and friends to lovers story wrapped up in one. These are two of my favorite tropes so I loved the story. I am coming to love Ms Booth’s writing more and more. The characters click with me and I care about their happiness and triumphs.

Cara and Toby are no exception. They have a great bond built on friendship and trust. I enjoyed their connection, their banter and their steamy hot love scenes.

Gossip Girl
Gossip Girl - Cecily von Ziegesar

Gossip Girl, Book 1

I Picked Up This Book Because: I’ve been curious about this book for quite some time.

The Characters:

Blair, Chuck, Nate, Serena, Dan, Jenny:
70 other people (ok I exaggerate, 69 other people)

The Story:

I think I passed my prime on this one. I thought this would be intriguing but I found it annoying. The Blair, Nate, Serena triangle was dumb. Blair should have seen right away that Nate was way more into Serena. Who wants to be the one he settled for? Chuck seemed annoying but not an interesting annoying. Jenny and Dan also bored me with their idealism of Serena.

I personally found very little attracting about the 51 pages of this book that I struggled through. I’ll stick with my memories of the TV show.

XOXO

Eleventh Grave In Moonlight
Eleventh Grave in Moonlight - Darynda Jones

Re-Read:
April 25 - May 1

What can I say about this series or this book that I haven’t said before? There’s nothing. These books are just so good, so addictive. Oh I did have one compliant. Charley knows how to shift and spy from a different plain why didn’t she do that before going and getting herself kidnapped? Oh well and amazing story nonetheless and the ending has me so ready for book number 12 but I’m going to split up my re-read just a little bit cause 2019 is a long time away for book 13.

Monthly Run Down - April 2018

Books I Read:

Ice Planet Barbarians  - 2 Stars - This was a struggle

If Someone Says “You Complete Me” Run!  - 4 Stars - Picked this back up on audio and it was great. Whoopi and I share a lot of ideas about relationships and being a “whole” person on your own.

Personal Delivery - 4 Stars -  These characters had amazingly hot chemistry.

Screwdrivered - 3.5 Stars - Audiobook: I didn’t like the way the narrator made the heroin sound. Also she fantasized way too much for me.

The Course of Tenth Grave - 4 Stars - Re-read. Charley being Charley is always great.

Becoming Kareem: Growing Up On and Off the Court - 4 Stars - My most surprising read of the month, maybe the year.

DNF:

None this month!

Currently Reading:

Gossip Girl - Cecily von Ziegesar - Only reading while at my day job so it’s going slow.

Eleventh Grave in Moonlight - Darynda Jones - I would have finished this yesterday (in April) but I had company in my car. I’ll finish it today.

Royal Treatment - Tracy Wolff - I don’t have concrete interest in this book. I’m reading it to finish it right now, which means it will take forever.

Year to Date Totals:

January: 9 books

February: 10 books

March: 9 books

April: 6 Books

2018: 34 books

Becoming Kareem: Growing Up On and Off the Court
Becoming Kareem: Growing Up On and Off the Court - Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

I Picked Up This Book Because: Seemed like a good idea at the time.

I’m not sure what I was expecting. I knew Kareem was a basketball player and I knew I would be hearing about his life. I was surprised to learn what a deep thinker he is. How educated and well read. How he lived and dealt with the civil unrest going on in the country while trying to build a professional career.

I think hearing this in Kareem’s voice made it feel so much more personal. Kareem is not just a record setting athlete. He is a man of many interest with quite a few tales to tell. More than even those in this book I’m sure.

Jake Aston:

The Story:

After their first encounter is interrupted by scandal at SwiftEx Jana finds out that Jake is actually not a delivery driver but a billionaire mogul. This book was interesting and sexy and Jana and Jake’s chemistry shot sparks off the page.

Screwdrivered
Screwdrivered - Alice Clayton

Cocktail, Book 3

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series

The Characters:

Viv Franklin:
Clark Barrow:
Hank the Cowboy, Jessica

The Story:

Viv inherits a beautiful beach house from her estranged, deceased aunt. In a life changing decision Viv decides to sell her small business restore the house and live as an artist in Mendocino. Her only roadblock is Clark Barrow, town librarian and town historian giving her hell at every turn of her renovation.

Now I wanted to like Viv and I mostly did but her constant romance novel narrative/constant fantasizing got to be annoying. I’m reasonably sure this was exasperated by the narrator's endless breathy voice and panting. It got old quick. I loved Viv’s passion when it came to arguing with Clark. It annoyed me that it took her so long to see thats where the good stuff was and to stop mooning over Hank. I can’t recall ever hearing why Hank and Clark had the kind of relationship they did. Was it just leftover hard feelings from school? I feel like Clark would be the kind of guy to mature past that by now.

Overall even though it was a great story I think I would have enjoyed it more by reading it instead of listening to it. I loved this town and the people in it. I also loved getting a visit from Caroline and Simon.

If Someone Says “You Complete Me” RUN!
If Someone Says You Complete Me, RUN!: Whoopi's Big Book of Relationships - Whoopi Goldberg
I Picked Up This Book Because: 92% the title, 8% Whoopi

The Story:

This book gave me some new thoughts and confirmed a lot of conclusions I had already come to in my own life. Interspersed with humor and a bit of sarcasm this doesn’t really read as a self help book. It is not at all “you should be doing this or that” like. It is very much “hey these are my experiences and learnings from life maybe they can help you”

I love how Whoopi explores being honest with yourself and those around you. Determine the important things in your life then go about them in the way that you want to.

The Random Thoughts:

”Take responsibility for yourself, and don’t expect someone else to do it for you.”

”You have to be a complete person before you can commit to anyone else.”

”We all want to be accepted, to be loved, sometimes so badly that we let things slide. But you let things slide for too long and soon enough you are living a lie.”

”The most important thing is that you have to listen to your truths, desires and wants. And you have to believe you deserve all of it.”

Ice Planet Barbarians
Ice Planet Barbarians: The Complete Series: A SciFi Alien Serial Romance - Ruby Dixon

Ice Planet Barbarians, Book 1

I Picked Up This Book Because: Group read with my online book club.

The Characters:

Georgie Carruthers:Abducted human,
Vektal: Chief of the Not-Hoth
Other abducted girls

The Story:

This one took a lot. I was so disinterested in the first few parts (chapters) because the kidnappers were terrible. There was no consent when the main characters meet. (view spoiler) It was just all uncomfortable and really made me want to walk away from the book. Since this was a group read for my online book club and I had read many glowing reviews I kept going… inch by inch.

I won’t say I came to like the book but I did like Georgie and Vektal’s bond in the end. I’m curious about how the others get along with the aliens but I’m not sure if I’ll be continuing the series.

The Random Thoughts:

If I never hear the “word” Kuhi again it will be too soon.

Ice Planet Barbarians  - 3 Stars - It took a very long time for me to get on board with this one. Once I got there it wasn't terrible.

DNF:

Make It Easy, Cupcake: Fabulously Fun Creations in 4 Simple Steps: Sample Pages
Make It Easy, Cupcake: Fabulously Fun Creations in 4 Simple Steps - Alan Richardson, Karen Tack

I Picked Up This Book Because: To feed my baking addiction.

I didn’t realize I was only receiving sample pages when I requested this book from Netgalley, silly me for not reading the full title. While I think this is probably a great book the version I received has some formatting issues that make it hard to follow. The ingredients list seem to be mixed into the text and the pictures seem to be behind the instructions. Once I figured this out I could look at the picture then go back to the instructions, weed out the ingredient lines and it all made sense. I love the ideas highlighted in this portion. The cookout/BBQ cupcakes are so cute and so inspired. I would love to give some of these designs a try in the future.

Trophy Husband
Trophy Husband - Lauren Blakely

Caught Up In Love, Book 3

I Picked Up This Book Because: Random selection from my Kindle Library.

The Characters:

McKenna:
Chris McCormick:
Hayden, Julia, Lena

The Story:

I really enjoyed the last Lauren Blakely books I read however if this one had been the first one, I probably wouldn’t read anymore of here books. I want to be clear that this book was not bad. It was well written, it had humor and sexy time and characters I actully liked. The major deterrent for me is how much McKenna still thought about her ex. It has been 18 months since he had lefter by the alter and though I haven’t been in that position I say it’s high time she stops giving him so much brain space. (view spoiler)

I enjoyed McKenna’s interactions with Chris. I think they had great chemistry and will make a great couple. I also liked McKenna’s friends and I loved little Lena.
