Hi I'm Shannon and I'm a book-a-holic. OK so I know it is not a word but its so true. I love reading and I have a serious book buying/borrowing problem. I read everyday and there is no such thing as no time to read for me, but I always feel like there is not enough time to read.

I’ve decided to start a little Tumblr called Read With Me. It will be updates of the book(s) I am currently reading with full on spoiler reactions to the pages as I read them and perhaps a review at the end. We’ll see how this goes.  Read With Me

Two Henrys
Two Henrys - Kevin Allison

I Picked Up This Book Because: Exploring Kindle Unlimited audio library

The Story:

A story of best friends, unrequited love and coming out… kinda. As much as I wanted to be as connected to this story as I was to the others in this short series but I just wasn’t. I’m not sure if it was Kevin’s narrating or the story itself but I just wasn’t into it. I honestly couldn’t even tell you how it ended.I checked out after he invited Ben to work on a song after not speaking to him for two years.

Identity Thief
Identity Thief - Rachel Rosenthal

I Picked Up This Book Because: Exploring Kindle Unlimited audio library

The Story:

Rachel is an amazing angel. Really before she discovered the breadth and width of the decet in her life she was still willing to work with him. To support and love him.
2. WHAT THE HELL. Her whole life was a lie. I see so clearly how she wondered down that hall and that she managed to recover from that is amazing.
Furthermore. I am stunned. SHOCKED. Yet I know my shock is nowhere near as deep as her own. I am glad to hear at the end that she has healed, that she is living a good life now, and that she was able to trust/love again.

The Random Thoughts:

I am really enjoying these little Original Shorts from Amazon. I hope they publish more of them in the future.

The Third Man
The Third Man - Mani Sheriar

I Picked Up This Book Because: Exploring Kindle Unlimited audio library

The Story:

Wow this is a short yet powerful story. It takes a lot to build a family sometimes and I, a childless single person, really take it for granted. This family struggled for their second son. They fought for him and I am very glad they won.

The Awkward Thoughts of W. Kamau Bell: Tales of a 6' 4", African American, Heterosexual, Cisgender, Left-Leaning, Asthmatic, Black and Proud Blerd, Mama's Boy, Dad, and Stand-Up Comedian - W. Kamau Bell

I Picked Up This Book Because: I enjoy Mr. Bell’s stand up comedy.

The Story:

Mr Bell covers so many important things in this book. I was brought to tears of shock, joy and pain. However he interpurses these gems with his trademark humor which left me feeling hopeful even after seemingly hopeless situations. Kamau is definitely using his voice to effect a positive change in the world.A task that is not always easy but needs to be done by many more of us.

It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time
It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time - Kylie Scott
I Picked Up This Book Because: Because of the title..and my enjoyment of the author’s other works

The Characters:

Adele Reid:
Peter “Pete” Gallagher:
Andrew: Adele’s Dad, Shanti: Adele’s Stepmother, Adele’s best friend, starts with an M

The Story:

Adele has been in love with Pete since she was sixteen. The problem is Pete is around thirteen years older than her. The bigger problem is Pete lovers her too. She’s his best friend, his “person” and it is ruined once Adele turns eighteen and decides she is old enough. A clumsy and thwarted attempt at seduction separates them for seven years. Now Adele’s dad, who is also Pete’s business partner, is getting married and Adele is forced into Pete’s home and back into his heart.

Their reunion was rough, funny and touching. I feel like I could tell Pete loved Adele throughout the book but tried really hard to do what is “right”. (view spoiler)

The Greatest Love Story Ever Told
Greatest Love Story Ever Told, The - Megan Mullally, Nick Offerman

I Picked Up This Book Because: Great reviews

Boy was I bamboozled on this one. Megan and Nick obviously love each other and they make each other laugh but the chuckles did not really pass along to me. This didn’t feel like a book, it was more like a 6+ hour podcast. They had some topics they rambled about them, much of it did not connect or was super repetitive. We get it you like doing puzzles while listening to audiobooks. This is the first time in history I can recall being disappointed that there was a bonus chapter, I was ready for it to be done.

I did quite enjoy Megan’s musings on body image and even though she is in an industry that glorifies the physical her message that you should love you quirks, dimples and bumps and dress in a way that is comfortable and interesting to you made me want to applaud.

Becoming
Becoming - Michelle Obama

I Picked Up This Book Because: Love her!

I quite enjoyed this detailed account of Mrs. Obama’s life. From growing up in Chicago to meeting Mr. Obama to a peak behind the curtain as her time as First Lady of the United States of America. This book was very personal, thoughtful and enlightening. Mrs. Obama shares a perspective with us that very few people have. It was very interesting and at times heartbreaking.

The Random Thoughts:

I was shocked at the amount of time I spent in tears during this book. Some sad and heartbreaking but some happy and joyful.

Summoned to Thirteenth Grave
Summoned To Thirteenth Grave - Darynda Jones

Charley Davidson , Book 13

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series.

The Characters:

Charley Davidson:
Reyes Alexander Farrow:
Cookie, Amber, Uncle Bob, Osh, Peri, Garrett, Beep, Gemma, I’m probably leaving someone out.

The Story:

Let’s move past the part when I cried because this is the last book in the series. Let’s also forget the other random crying I did throughout the book as they are related to major spoilers. Let’s focus on the fact that we are on the thirteenth book and Ms Jones still manage to shock and surprise me with every chapter. Don’t get me wrong I am incredibly saddened by the end of this series but I could not be happier with the way it ended. I think Ms Jones gave us appropriate closure to the story.

The amount of tears I shed during this book is probably record breaking. There are so many characters that we must say a loving goodbye to but who knows maybe the goodbye is only temporary.

The Random Thoughts:

I cannot wait for the audiobook to be released. Definitely deserves another read/listen.

Dark Sentinel
Dark Sentinel - Christine Feehan

Carpathians, Book 28

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series

The Characters:

Lorraine Peters:
Andor Katona:

The Story:

This story just pretty much moves along the series. Nothing spectacular happens. Lorraine and Andor seem like a good match. Whichever Malanov is still looking wants his woman back. His woman belongs to one of the other ancients though so good luck with that. The story was well written and very detailed as usual but like I said nothing spectacular.

September 14 - December 17

Despite the absamily long time it took me to re-read this I really did enjoy it. The beginning is a bit slow but it takes off running and by the end I was glued to the page. I’m not sure if I’m going to re-read the whole series but I had a ball revisiting Forks

Forever Yours in Christmas Falls
Forever Yours in Christmas Falls (Return to Christmas Falls Book 5) - Susan Hatler
Return to Christmas Falls, Book 5

I Picked Up This Book Because: Wanted a quick read

The Characters:

Morgan Reed:
Dallas Parker:
Ruby, Conner, Mr & Mrs Reed, Ms Anna Cate

The Story:

The set up was ideal to me. Morgan is moving home to Christmas Falls to open a salon. Through an accident her salon space is rented to both her and her childhood crush Dallas Parker. This is right up my alley however the things I didn’t count on were the spectre of Morgan’s sister Grace and Morgan’s unending need to please her mother no matter how miserable it makes her. Seriously I could have kicked Morgan. It took her way too long to realize she needs to live her life for herself and shame on her mother for making her think any different. I know my thoughts are harsh as I couldn’t tell anyone how to act after losing a child or sister but I found it so annoying.

Overall it wasn’t a terrible story, just a frustrating one.

Rich People Problems
Rich People Problems: A Novel - Kevin Kwan

Crazy Rich Asians, Book 3

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series

The Characters:

Again the cast of this book is legion, just like the last two. We do spend time with Rachel and Nick, Astrid, Michael and Colin, Charlie Wu, Kitty, Oliver and we don’t talk to her but Colette also.

The Story:

There is never any good way for me to sum up these books. Too much happens. So here’s a random list of impressions I’m left with. I’m so happy for Nick and Rachel. I’m glad Rachel told off her mother in law, the chick is too pushy. I cried at Su Yi’s funeral. It was a beautiful and emotional scene. Michael is the worst and Isabella isn’t far above him on the list. They did not have to treat Charlie and Astrid that way. However, I am glad that the situation they were put in allowed Astrid to find her freedom and lead to a happier life for herself. (view spoiler) I was somewhat shocked by Colette. I don’t remember much of her from China Rich Girlfriend but I know I don’t like her. I think Kitty’s obsession with her is beyond unhealthy and she needs help. Also when a kid can tell you in a full sentence that he is hungry breastfeeding time is over but I’m nobody’s parent so….

Overall I truly enjoyed this book. There were so many revelations. I do hope Mr Kwan writes another installment.
