Hi I'm Shannon and I'm a book-a-holic. OK so I know it is not a word but its so true. I love reading and I have a serious book buying/borrowing problem. I read everyday and there is no such thing as no time to read for me, but I always feel like there is not enough time to read.

I’ve decided to start a little Tumblr called Read With Me. It will be updates of the book(s) I am currently reading with full on spoiler reactions to the pages as I read them and perhaps a review at the end. We’ll see how this goes.  Read With Me

Then Came You
Then Came You - Jill Shalvis

Animal Magnetism, Book 5

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series, which I am determined to finish this month.

The Characters:

Wyatt Stone:
Emily Stevens:
Darcy, Zoey,

The Story:

A cute story of a one night stand turned real life. Much like Meredith and Derek on Grey’s Anatomy, except Wyatt isn’t married and is a hot vet. This book is fun and entertaining.

The Random Thoughts:

Peanut might be my favorite character of the series.

Carniepunk: The Cold Girl
Carniepunk: The Cold Girl - Rachel Caine

I Picked Up This Book Because: Random library find under the authors name.

The Characters:

Kiley:

The Story:

A little something different from Ms Caine for me. This was creepy and shocking and a little strange and you know what it wasn’t different. LOL. These qualities are exactly why I like Ms Caine’s writing. She blends just enough suspense with shocking horror and redemption.

I enjoyed this story though it was sad Kiley had to die and her boyfriend was a psycho.

Rumor Has It
Rumor Has It - Jill Shalvis

Animal Magnetism, Book 4

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series.

The Characters:

Griffin Reid:
Kate Evans:

The Story:

So this story was a bit overloaded. I loved the best friends brother trope but there was a wedding, a missing child, a possible stalker, teacher woes, health issues, daddy issues, a battle to reclaim one's life all rolled up into 281 pages. Or 9 hours and 18 minutes since I listened to this. And actually saying 9 hours doesn’t make it feel as overloaded as I felt listening to it.

Anyway I enjoyed this story and it’s many many facets. Griffin and Kate are so good for each other and I’m so glad I have a little more time in Sunshine to see how they grow…. Hopefully.

Hazel & Holly
Hazel and Holly - Sara C. Snider

I Picked Up This Book Because: Cover love.

The Characters:

Hazel:
Holly:
Tum, Hemlock, Hawthorne

The Story:

I love a sisterly bond and a sisterly bond on an adventure to find your father… no brainer for me, Unfortunately the book did not deliver for me. Well more like it was taking too long to deliver so I’ve moved on.

Furiously Happy
Furiously Happy: A Funny Book About Horrible Things - Jenny Lawson, Jenny Lawson
I Picked Up This Book Because: I saw it on one of those “books you must read” lists.

The Story:

I have described this book as the endlessly entertaining rantings of a mad woman but there is sooo much more to it then that. Jenny is a fierce warrior, a dedicated mother and an outstanding human though I’m not sure her husband would always agree. I have so many good feelings spurred by this book. I won’t ramble for days about it, at least not here. I’ll just say I loved it.

Books I Read:

Him  - 5 Stars - Re-read. I will never not love this book.

Thick - 4 Stars - A short tale of insta-love.

I Almost Forgot About You - 2 Stars - The supporting characters annoyed the crap out of me.

One for the Money - 4 Stars - I really like Stephanie despite the less than smart choices she makes sometimes.

Just the Funny Parts:... and a Few Hard Truths about Sneaking Into the Hollywood Boys’ Club - 3.5 Stars - Tons of great info and good stories to learn from.

This Will Only Hurt a Little - 4 Stars -  So so good. Busy has had a long and varying career and I’m glad she decided to share her stories.

Heaven   - 2.5 Stars - Definitely not my favorite read.

DNF:

Black Girls Must Die Exhausted - Jayne Allen - I wanted to love this book. I really really did but mostly it just bored me. The story moved nowhere in like 100 pages.

Hazel and Holly   - Sara C Schnider - The blurb said it would be an excellent adventure, the book was very slow to prove this so I gave up.

The Umbrella Academy, Vol. 1: The Apocalypse Suite - Gerard  Way - Graphic novels are not my thing. I try every now and then but I never learn.

Girls With Sharp Sticks - Suzanne Young - I should also accept that I don’t for dystopian books.

Girls With Sharp Sticks
Girls With Sharp Sticks - Suzanne Young

I Picked Up This Book Because: I fell for the hype. I regret it.

The Characters:

Philomena Rhodes:
Sydney:
Several other girls in the “school”

The Story:

This was a no from me. I never find these kinds of oppressive dystopian type storys something I enjoy. I really should have read the synopsis more clearly. Basically I cringed the entire time. I did read the last chapter just to see if it got better and even that was loopy.

I’m sure plenty of people enjoyed this book but I was not one of them.

Thick
Thick - Alexa Riley
I Picked Up This Book Because: Heard a little buzz and it was on KU so why not?.

The Characters:

Teeny:
Bull:

The Story:

This is a quick cute and steamy tail of opposites attract. I enjoyed it however if you don’t like insta-love this story is not for you. Teeny and Bull prove to be the yin to each others yang.

The Random Thoughts:

It was so different to see a male lead that struggled with confidence.

Two for the Dough
Two for the Dough - Janet Evanovich
Stephanie Plum, Book 2

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series.

The Characters:

Stephanie Plum:
Joe Morelli:
Grandma Mazur, Ranger,

The Story:

Stephanie is up to her dangerous bounty hunter shenanigans again. This time with the help of a back in good standing as a cop Joe Morelli. I love the way Joe seems to been creeping into her life. They are basically dating and Stephanie has no clue. We saw less of Ranger in this book which saddened me but Grandma Mazur was front and center and so darn entertaining. She is keeping everyone on their toes.

I mostly had a good time with this book. I also was a bit creeped out with all the breaking and entering going on. Can’t wait to start the next book.

The Random Thoughts:

I listened to the abridged audiobook which had terrible editing. Not the author or narrators fault but definitely made the book annoying when it didn’t have to be.

This Will Only Hurt a Little
This Will Only Hurt a Little - Busy Phillipps

I Picked Up This Book Because: I’ve head/seen a lot of buzz about it.

The Story:

Busy is raw and emotional and so open and honest in this book. I cried with her, for her. I cheered for her. I rejoiced in her triumphs and was so angry at her humiliations. Busy is an actress I’ve known about for a while but never followed in any capacity. After reading her book I need to look her up on Instagram.

Honestly I think a lot of younger girls would benefit from her story. Especially her younger years when she first starts to explore sex and relationships. There are so many “oh honey, no!”s. This reminds me (who has no children) how important it is to have these uncomfortable conversations with your teenagers.

I Almost Forgot About You
I Almost Forgot About You - Terry McMillan

I Picked Up This Book Because: The author
The Characters:

Georgia Young:
Wanda, Violet, Estelle, Frankie, Stan

The Story:

This wasn’t a terrible book but the focus and insistence that Georgia's friends and family put on her being single and that she HAD TO find a man to make her life happy and complete annoyed me to no end. Don’t get me wrong, if you desire to share your life with someone that’s wonderful but this book makes it seems like your just nothing unless you are coupled up or at least screwing someone be he married/engaged/single. Yeah ,no not okay.

I liked Georgia. I liked her spirit and the fact that she was willing to make changes in her life when she found she was dissatisfied with the way it was going. She is a loyal and forgiving friend and a tireless and loving mother. She tried new things and yes not all of them worked out but she was willing to try when most people are not. I’m glad she found her happily ever after.

To be honest, this book went on too long and annoyed me to the point of almost DNFing. The writing is not bad and it’s really highly rated but just not for me.

Summoned To Thirteenth Grave - Darynda Jones

Charlie Davidson, Book 13

Re-Read:
February 5 - February 12

This book broke my heart all over again. It’s so hard saying goodbye to these characters. It’s so strange that these books and characters have been a part of my life for many years however the timeline of the series is maybe 2 years long. I already miss Charlie and crew but I’m looking forward to more from this wonderful author.

Black Girls Must Die Exhausted
Black Girls Must Die Exhausted - Jayne Allen

I Picked Up This Book Because: The title

The Characters:

Tabitha Walker:
Granma Tabitha, Marc, Laila, Alexis

The Story:

I.Am.Bored. I have been bored since I started this book back in February. It’s not that the writing is bad it’s just slow. Nothing is happening and when something does happen we have to dwell on it and repeat it a thousand times before we can move on. I can’t stay invested in Tabitha’s journey. I did skip to the end and read the last chapter and the epilogue and I feel like Tab got a peaceful ending if not a traditional HEA and I’m okay knowing just that.

I do feel bad for DNF-ing this book because I wanted to love it but my love stopped at the front cover. Seriously it’s beautiful and I’d hang it on my wall.

The Umbrella Academy, Vol. 1: Apocalypse Suite - Gerard Way, Gabriel Bá

I Picked Up This Book Because: My love for the show inspired me to try reading the graphic novel

The Story:

I have always known graphic novels are not my thing however I have this a chance based on my love of the subject. However,  I felt like the story was disjointed and since I read it digitally there are a lot of frames and words I can’t even see. It proved to be more struggle than I signed up for.

Re-Read:

This book is still excellent despite this being my third time reading it. I fall in love with Jamie and Wes every time. I’ve even been inspired to reread Us. This time.
