Hi I'm Shannon and I'm a book-a-holic. OK so I know it is not a word but its so true. I love reading and I have a serious book buying/borrowing problem. I read everyday and there is no such thing as no time to read for me, but I always feel like there is not enough time to read.

I’ve decided to start a little Tumblr called Read With Me. It will be updates of the book(s) I am currently reading with full on spoiler reactions to the pages as I read them and perhaps a review at the end. We’ll see how this goes.  Read With Me

Rory the Dinosaur Wants a Pet
Rory the Dinosaur Wants a Pet - Liz Climo

I Picked Up This Book Because: Liz Climo binge

The Story:

Really cute. I liked Rory more in this book than in the last. Definitely going to have to buy these for my niece and nephew when they are past their “tear all paper” stage.

Virgin River
Virgin River - Robyn Carr

Virgin River, Book 1

I Picked Up This Book Because: My cousin raved about the show on Netflix but I had to read the book before watching.

The Characters:

Jake Sheridan:
Malinda “Mel” Monroe:
Joey (Mel’s sister), Doc, Preacher, Ricky, pretty much all the residents of Virgin River

The Story:

Seeking solace after losing her husband to a violent crime Mel sells everything and leaves the fast pace life in L.A. for small town Virgin River where she will put her nurse/midwife skills to use helping out the local doctor. Mel has a super rough start but her wounds are slowly tended to and healed by Jack’s easy going, confident presence. With the help of Jack and the rest of Virgin River Mel learns that can and does appreciate small town life. .

This story was cute and the characters were lovable. I enjoyed it a lot. I can’t wait to go back.

The Random Thoughts:

Now I can run right over and watch the series on Netflix. Thank goodness it’s a holiday weekend.

Plum Lovin’
Plum Lovin' - Janet Evanovich

Stephanie Plum, Book 12.5

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series

The Characters:

Stephanie Plum:
Diesel:
Grandma Mazur, Lula, Connie, Tank,

The Story:

I’m not sure how I feel about these between the number books. Barely and Joe or Ranger, Diesel is questionable, little action and Stephanie didn’t even blow up a car. She did have a minor crash so I suppose that’s something.

Overall this left me pretty lukewarm. I’ll continue the series because I love the characters.

Happily Ever After
Happily Ever After - Kelly Oram

Cinder & Ella, Book 2

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series.

The Characters:

Ellamara Rodriguez:
Brian Oliver:
Juliette, Ana, Mr Coleman (Ella’s Dad), Vivian

The Story:

This book picks up a week after the first book ends. Now that Brian and Ella have found each other they have to learn to navigate the world of fame together with Ella being wildly unprepared. It’s super cute, very thoughtful and ends with the all important Happily Ever After.

This seems to be written to be a duet however I’d love to see some spinoff stories about other characters. The twins or Vivian’s parents in particular and of course with cameos from Brian and Ella.

The Random Thoughts:

I love how the narrator effortlessly snuck in Ella’s Boston accent.

Regretting You
Regretting You - Colleen Hoover

I Picked Up This Book Because: Seeing if it was worth the hype.

The Characters:

Morgan Grant :
Clara Grant:
Miller Adams, Jonah Sullivan, Lexie, Jennie Davidson, Chris Grant

The Story:

I don’t even know how to begin describing this one. A) Because a lot happened and 2) I don’t want to give away anything so rather than describing the plot I’ll stick to the scorecard. The writing was good. I enjoyed the plot twist. I do think a lot could have been avoided if Morgan and Clara just talked to each other but then there wouldn’t be much of a book would there. The pacing moved along well. The only scene that dragged for me is the mockumentary. I really don’t card to watch them, let alone read a description of one the characters are watching. (view spoiler)

Although this book was good it wasn’t the smash I felt like the hype built it up to be. Beyond the plot twist I felt like it was mostly misunderstanding/miscommunication.

Christmas in the City
Christmas in the City - Elle Kennedy, Penelope Ward, Kennedy Ryan, Corinne Michaels, Vi Keeland, Sarina Bowen, Sierra Simone, Melanie Harlow, Penny Reid, Grace L. C. Shen-Ong, Helena Hunting, Luci Cosway
Just the Tip - Helena Hunting & L.J. Shen - 4 Stars - Regina “Reggie” LaPenus, Horace - Super fun, sexy and funny. I adore Reggie and Horace together. The only minor thing I found wrong with the story is it took me more than a chapter to figure out if Reggie was male or female.

Baby It’s Cold Outside - Melanie Harlow & Corinne Michaels - 3 Stars - Harlow North, Michael West - I like the meet cute between the characters however I didn’t really bond with them. It is likely because the hero is named after my ex. Though I personally had some issues this was a good story and if I could have bonded more with the characters it would have pushed it to a great story.

Kissmas in New York - Vi Keeland & Penlope Ward - 3.5 Stars - Margo, Chet - The ultimate fantasy. A meet cute, undeniable chemistry and a man that gives it all up for you.

The Christmas Crown - Sierra Simone & Kennedy Ryan - Stars - Noelani Queen of Manaroa, Brock Grimsby - This one didn’t catch my attention. I read two chapters and I didn’t connect with the characters at all so I packed it in and moved on.

Songbird - Penny Reid & LH Cosway - 4 Stars - Boderick Adams & Ophelia Kelly - This story was very cute. Two solitary strangers decide to spend Christmas Eve together after a chance meeting in a pub. They move around Ireland a bit, my favorite place to visit in fiction, and develop quite a bond. I wanted more of this story. I want to know if Ophelia’s music career took off. I want to know if she and Broderick reconnected. Seriously I need more.

Epic - Him, Book 2.5 - Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy - 5 Stars - Jamie Canning & Ryan “Wes” Wesley - I would give this book 5 stars just for being about Jamie and Wes. These two are my favorite fictional couple. I’ve re-read Him several times but visiting them again made me so happy. I loved seeing the next level in their relationship and careers. I smiled and giggled so much. I will definitely read this again the next time I revisit Him (which will be soon) I love how this writing team never fails to give me feels.

Home Work
Home Work: A Memoir of My Hollywood Years - Emma Walton Hamilton, Julie Andrews Edwards
I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the story after Home

The Story:

This book covers Ms Andrews’ career from 1963-1986. About the time she films Mary Poppins to the just before Victor/Victoria goes to Broadway. We learn a lot about her professional life but we also find out quite a lot about her personal life and family. Her husbands, parents, siblings and her dearest treasures, her children. They had quite a different family life than anyone I’ve known in person. There was constant traveling, immigration issues, staff, friends and adoption. I didn’t realize how much Ms Andrews worked with her husband. They did several movies/productions together and seemed to be a good working team. I was especially moved by Ms Andrew’s travels to Vietnam and her humanitarian efforts there. The camps and conditions she described were deplorable. I pray for those who had to live that way and for those who have to live like that now.

Twelve Sharp
Twelve Sharp - Janet Evanovich
Stephanie Plum, Book 12

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the story
The Characters:

Stephanie Plum:
Ranger:
Joe Morelli, Grandma Mazur, Mom, Dad, Lula, Connie

The Story:

It was great to have Ranger back and so involved in the story. Between his imposter (a crazy man) and his daughter’s kidnapping he was almost the star. Stephanie managed to keep her car in this book too. Surprising I know. I’m super happy this series is “never ending”, I haven’t managed to get tired of the stories yet and I hope I never do.

The Random Thoughts:

Not a great review but it’s almost midnight on New Year’s Eve cut me some slack. :-D
