Hi I'm Shannon and I'm a book-a-holic. OK so I know it is not a word but its so true. I love reading and I have a serious book buying/borrowing problem. I read everyday and there is no such thing as no time to read for me, but I always feel like there is not enough time to read.

I’ve decided to start a little Tumblr called Read With Me. It will be updates of the book(s) I am currently reading with full on spoiler reactions to the pages as I read them and perhaps a review at the end. We’ll see how this goes.  Read With Me

Jar of Hearts
Jar of Hearts - Jennifer Hillier

I Picked Up This Book Because: I’m not even sure anymore.

The Characters:

Georgina “Geo” Shaw:
Angela Wong:
Kaiser Brody:
Calvin James:

The Story:

I don’t even know how to begin describing this book. There are so many characters and so many secrets and a “wow” of a finale.

I can say I was probably deep into the third part (out of five) before the book made me want to pick it up. I was absolutely hooked for the last five chapters. The book is told in alternating time between the present and flashbacks to high school. Also told in alternate POV between Geo and Kaiser. I must say I liked Kaisers part better. Geo’s is filled with some rough situations, jail, rape, murder, more rape, more murder. It can be a lot.

Overall it’s an interesting book. Very well thought out and executed.

The Varlet and the Voyeur
The Varlet and the Voyeur - L.H. Cosway

Rugby, Book 4

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series

The Characters:

William “Will” Moore:
Josey Kavanagh:
Elish, Brian

The Story:

I liked Will even though he seemed uncompromising at times. I liked Josey, she is very much a free spirit but she and Will seem like Yin and Yang so they blend together well. Both suffered the dreaded communication issue, their self imposed rules keeping them from each other. Oh and then there’s the matter of Will’s public scandal. It really was a shame because Will is a very stand up guy. I’m glad he found Josey, I think he loved her from his first meeting with her.

The Paper Magician, Book 2

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series

The Characters:

Ceony Twill:
Emery Thane:
Delilah, Magician Aviosky

The Story:

This book picks up where The Glass Magician left off. Ceony seems to be a magnet for danger. This time she has attracted the attention of Layla’s partner Graft. (He has a first name I just can’t remember it) Graft wants Ceony to restore Layla and he has a big secret of his own (view spoiler) Graft threatens everyone Ceony loves so of course she takes it upon herself to stop him. Graft prove to be a wiley foe.

I really liked this book and I’m glad I had the next installment handy to continue the series.

Verity
Verity - Colleen Hoover

I Picked Up This Book Because: I heard a lot about this book and I couldn’t pass up the chance to read it when I was it was on Kindle Unlimited. (I’m like a KU ad this month, sorry)

The Characters:

Lowen Ashleigh:
Jeremy Crawford:
Verity Crawford, Crew Crawford, Harper and Chastin Crawford

The Story:

This book messes with your mind! It messes with Lowen’s mind. We will never know the truth and I’m so here for it. Really I’ve been singing the praises of this book since chapter 2 or 3. I don’t know how to talk about it without giving away much so I’m going to ramble under a spoiler tag. (view spoiler) End shocked babble.

This book is creepy but gripping. I’m so glad I read it.

The Random Thoughts:

Looks like my spoiler tag doesn't work here so you can see the details on my Goodreads page here

Normally I reserve 5 Star reviews for books I will reread but this book made such an impression I doubt I'll ever need to reread.

Whiskey in a Teacup
Whiskey in a Teacup - Reese Witherspoon

I Picked Up This Book Because: I like the author and have heard good things.

This is book is part wonderful memories about family friends and the time you get/make to spend together and part recipe book. A perfect combination if you ask me. I enjoyed the stroll down memory lane and was excited to try the recipes. I love listening to these kinds of books but this one is probably worth the print because of said recipes.

The Random Thoughts:

I’m disappointed that I am unable to access the pdf though my library. I was looking forward to trying some of her recipes.

Prisoner of Night - J.R. Ward

Black Dagger Brotherhood, Book 16.5

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series

The Characters:

Ahmare:
Duran:
Female Shadow, Ahmare’s brother

The Story:

While the action and sexiness of this book was sufficient and I love the idea of learning about the citizens of Caldwell outside of the brothers I found myself drifting off and not caring several times. Maybe I just didn’t connect with them that well. I can’t even remember the names of the supporting characters or the bad guy. He was an excellent villain though. Really evil.

I've read 15 books this year and at least 8 of them I've had to add to booklikes myself. They are not new releases. I don't understand. Anyone else having this issue?

The Paper Magician, Book 1

I Picked Up This Book Because: Exploring Kindle Unlimited Audio Library

The Characters:

Ceony Twill:
Emery Thane:
Layla,

The Story:

I really like this writer's’ voice. I was in from page one. Ceony is determined and strong. Emery had suffered heartache but he hasn’t let it completely make him hard. I love the little things he did for Ceony. The snow and Fennel come to mind first.

Ceony goes on a quiet interesting adventure after Emery is injured by the infamous Layla. I can’t say much more without giving it all away but it was amazing.

Well Hung Over in Vegas
Well Hung Over in Vegas - Kimberly Fox

I Picked Up This Book Because: Exploring Kindle Unlimited

The Characters:

Dahlia Winters:
Tyler McMillan:
Emily, Mr Wallace

The Story:

Dahlia has terrible “friends” and has apparently managed to marry an a-hole. Though I am curious about how the missing hours of her night with Tyler will unfold I can not put up with Ms. “Maybe he roofied you, You’re so lucky” or Mr. “Yes I’ll get an annulment but after I use you for my own personal gains first”

Two Henrys
Two Henrys - Kevin Allison

I Picked Up This Book Because: Exploring Kindle Unlimited audio library

The Story:

A story of best friends, unrequited love and coming out… kinda. As much as I wanted to be as connected to this story as I was to the others in this short series but I just wasn’t. I’m not sure if it was Kevin’s narrating or the story itself but I just wasn’t into it. I honestly couldn’t even tell you how it ended.I checked out after he invited Ben to work on a song after not speaking to him for two years.

Identity Thief
Identity Thief - Rachel Rosenthal

I Picked Up This Book Because: Exploring Kindle Unlimited audio library

The Story:

Rachel is an amazing angel. Really before she discovered the breadth and width of the decet in her life she was still willing to work with him. To support and love him.
2. WHAT THE HELL. Her whole life was a lie. I see so clearly how she wondered down that hall and that she managed to recover from that is amazing.
Furthermore. I am stunned. SHOCKED. Yet I know my shock is nowhere near as deep as her own. I am glad to hear at the end that she has healed, that she is living a good life now, and that she was able to trust/love again.

The Random Thoughts:

I am really enjoying these little Original Shorts from Amazon. I hope they publish more of them in the future.

I Picked Up This Book Because: Exploring Kindle Unlimited audio library

The Story:

Wow this is a short yet powerful story. It takes a lot to build a family sometimes and I, a childless single person, really take it for granted. This family struggled for their second son. They fought for him and I am very glad they won.

The Awkward Thoughts of W. Kamau Bell: Tales of a 6' 4", African American, Heterosexual, Cisgender, Left-Leaning, Asthmatic, Black and Proud Blerd, Mama's Boy, Dad, and Stand-Up Comedian - W. Kamau Bell

I Picked Up This Book Because: I enjoy Mr. Bell’s stand up comedy.

The Story:

Mr Bell covers so many important things in this book. I was brought to tears of shock, joy and pain. However he interpurses these gems with his trademark humor which left me feeling hopeful even after seemingly hopeless situations. Kamau is definitely using his voice to effect a positive change in the world.A task that is not always easy but needs to be done by many more of us.
