Hi I'm Shannon and I'm a book-a-holic. OK so I know it is not a word but its so true. I love reading and I have a serious book buying/borrowing problem. I read everyday and there is no such thing as no time to read for me, but I always feel like there is not enough time to read.

I’ve decided to start a little Tumblr called Read With Me. It will be updates of the book(s) I am currently reading with full on spoiler reactions to the pages as I read them and perhaps a review at the end. We’ll see how this goes.  Read With Me

So Close to Being the Sh*t, Y’all Don't Even Know
So Close to Being the Sh*t, Y'all Don't Even Know - Retta

I Picked Up This Book Because: Curious

If our backgrounds had been more similar I would be sure Retta and I are related. Her love for TV reminds me of 80% of my conversations with my cousin. What I wouldn’t give to have her sit in on a break down of Vampire Diaries or Grey’s Anatomy with us. And the time she spent talking about Hamilton, I agreed with every word! I sadly haven’t met Lin-Manuel, Daveed, Oke or Leslie nor seen the show multiple times so I’m hella jealous. And should I even bother to talk about the lazy club??? HA!

I enjoyed this book thoroughly. I’ve already recommended to my like minded bookish real life friends. And this babbling review can serve as a recommendation to my virtual bookish friends. Read it! Or better yet listen to the audiobook. It was great.

  Crazy Rich Asians, Book 2

The Characters:

The cast of this book is legion, just like the last one. Though we do spend time with Rachel and Nick, Astrid, Michael and Colin, Charlie Wu and newcomers Carlton and Colette.

The Story:

I’m not sure we can even classify this as a book. It more like a mini epic. All the characters, multiple plots and

Writing: Excellent. With so many characters and stories I never once felt lost.

The Characters:

Alexander Hamilton:

Angelica Schuyler, Peggy Schuyler,

The Story:

Writing:Very good but I expect nothing less from Ms de la Cruz
Forward Motion: This story moved well. The only pauses I had were to listen to tracks from the Hamilton Soundtrack.

Argeneau, Book 24

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series

The Characters:

Abigail Forsythe:
Tomasso Note:

The Story:

Something big is brewing for the Argeneau’s and I need to hurry up and catch up. It was so good to see Tomasso find his lifemate. He deserves a smart and brave chicke like Abigail. They have both had some rough times but together can put them in the past.

The Random Thoughts:

It’s been more than two years since I’ve read an Argeneau book, I guess that cliffhanger hurt me more than I realized.

I Picked Up This Book Because: Author sent it in email

The Characters:

Indigo “Iggy” Wouck:
Francesca “Frankie” Michelle Vincent:
Vivi and Frankie’s other friend (I forgot to write down her name)

The Story:

These first two parts are really just the tip of the iceberg on this story. We have our two main characters and a ton of questions. Tons of potential! I can’t wait until we get the next chapters.

Sexsomnia: Sleepless in Manhattan
Sexsomnia - Sleepless in Manhattan - Anya Omah

I Picked Up This Book Because: The blurb, I guess. Can’t actually remember why I requested it.

The Characters:

Abigail Davis:
Jayden King:
Jessica King, Alice Davis best sisters in the world (excluding my own)

The Story:

This book frustrated me so much… no, I take it back Jayen King frustrated me. He at times seemed like a spoiled brat who just lashed out when things didn’t go his way. However, I suppose he was as he states often that he is used to getting his way. I do wonder if he was raised that way though. His family information, outside of his sisters, is lacking.

Abby was a good character. I’m still wondering if her disorder is real but I’m not going to google it. She was quite brave and strong. I her background was also lacking but I suppose the author didn’t think it impacted the story much.

Overall this story was just interesting enough to keep my holding on. I love a love story and I could feel the chemistry between Jayden and Abby. Their sisters, Jess and Alice, made me smile. Jess was definitely needed to keep Jayden in line and Alice’s unwavering support of Abby touched my heart.

The Random Thoughts:

It’s hard to read an erotic book where the main character has the same name as you 14 year old nephew. I had to mentally change his name to Jason or just he for most of the book.

Lies
Lies: The Gripping Psychological Thriller That Will Take Your Breath Away - T.M. Logan

I Picked Up This Book Because: The blurb showed so much potential.

The Characters:

Joe Lynch: Father, confused gentleman
Mel Lynch: wife, up to something???
William (son)

The Story:

I feel so much urgency from Joe but NOTHING is happening. Well a lot happens but I feel like he’s too amped up. Or the writing is, I’m not sure. I do know I’m not enjoying myself so I’m calling it quits.

This Is Just My Face: Try Not to Stare
This Is Just My Face: Try Not to Stare - Gabourey Sidibe

I Picked Up This Book Because: The title. It’s too funny.

The Story:

As I should have guessed from the title Gabourey is hilarious. Even the less than sunny aspects of her life are told with wit and style. Her experience as a half Senegalese half southern American child raised in New York City is fascinating. She speaks of a lot of family situations that are familiar to me yet a lot that are not. We learn about her relationship with her mother and father, strained as they might be at times, with herself and with her body. Gabourey’s challenges in life and the way she accepts them and overcomes them is encouraging.

Rough & Ready
Rough & Ready - Tracy Wolff

Lightening, Book 3

I Picked Up This Book Because: Random Netgalley selection

The Characters:

Tanner Green: Looks NOTHING like the dude on the cover, which is also my biggest peeve with this book.
Elara Vance:

The Story:

While I like Elara and Tanner and enjoyed watching their relationship grow, I took major issue with the timeline of this book. Their relationship blossoms very quickly which isn’t even a problem for me what bothers me more is you can’t tell how quick. I found myself thinking something happened a few days ago and then find out it’s been weeks. I am reading an ARC so I hope things like this are sorted out before the book is released.

Now that I’ve gotten that off my mind can I talk about what a spectacular man Tanner is? Not only is he great with Elara and her issues he is wonderful with her kids, extremely generous and truly there for his sisters. Elara is extremely strong and so damn fierce. My only gripe with her is not exposing Jeremy however I do understand why she hasn’t.

Consumed - J.R. Ward

Firefighters, Book 1

I Picked Up This Book Because: J.R. Ward!!!!!

The Characters:

Anne Ashburn:
Danny McGuire:
Tom Ashburn Jr, Nancy Janice Fitzgerald Ashburn, a host of fellow firefighters

The Story:

J. R. Ward is an author that tends to make me babble with joy so I’ll take it down to the scorecard format and hopefully make some sense.

Writing: So good. There is a different voice from the Brothers or even the Bourbon Kings but it’s undeniably Ward. The story flowed well and the characters lived off the page to me.
Forward Motion: Really good. I never felt rushed despite a lot of the action being back loaded.
Overall Interest: This was a book I wanted to pick up. I did stray just because I wanted to also finish the book I was reading when the galley was approved but It was a 2 chapter of Consumed to 1 chapter of the other book ratio.
Length of Reading Time: Average for me. Again I could have done it faster if I wasn’t sharing time but I enjoyed it the way it was.
Re-read-ability: Probably not. I love J.R. Ward books but I’ve never been compelled to reread.

Overall I enjoyed this book a lot. I couldn’t put it down for the last 10%. I can’t wait to get to know these characters more.

Black Privilege: Opportunity Comes to Those Who Create It
Black Privilege: Opportunity Comes to Those Who Create It - Charlamagne Tha God, Charlamagne Tha God, Simon & Schuster Audio

I Picked Up This Book Because: It was a gift

Charlamagne is a radio personality I know of but I wouldn’t say I’m a fan. I’ve listened to many donkey of the day clips and a few other interviews with the Breakfast Club but morning radio isn’t really my thing. I spend much more time listening to audiobooks which is how I read this.

Charlamagne gives tons of great advice in this book. He also backs it up with examples from his own life. I found chapters 6 and 10 to be particularly inspiring.
