Hi I'm Shannon and I'm a book-a-holic. OK so I know it is not a word but its so true. I love reading and I have a serious book buying/borrowing problem. I read everyday and there is no such thing as no time to read for me, but I always feel like there is not enough time to read.

I’ve decided to start a little Tumblr called Read With Me. It will be updates of the book(s) I am currently reading with full on spoiler reactions to the pages as I read them and perhaps a review at the end. We’ll see how this goes.  Read With Me

Everything is F*cked: A Book About Hope
Everything is F*cked - Mark Manson

So I’m going to blame it on my mood. This book is not holding my attention at all. I’m finding my mind wandering or listening to music instead of the book. I even listened to the radio the other day. So I think it’s safe to go ahead and call this a DNF

Cinder & Ella
Cinder & Ella - Kelly Oram

Cinder & Ella , Book 1

I Picked Up This Book Because: Random library find

The Characters:

Ellamara Rodriguez:
Brian “Cinder” Oliver:
Juliette, Vivian, Anastasia, Rob, Mr & Mrs Coleman

The Story:

I smiled throughout most of this book, with breaks for outrage and tears. I love Brian and Ella’s relationship, even before they met. I love their banter and how much they care for each other. I enjoyed the growth of the sisterhood between Juliette and Ella, that was a hard won battle. Elle’s like if almost all hard one battles and she has her ups and downs.

I enjoyed this book very much, if I had the next book I’d pick it up right now.

The Random Thoughts:

I’m quite disappointed that my library does not have the next installment. :-(

The Bride Test
The Bride Test - Helen Hoang

The Kiss Quotient, Book 2

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series

The Characters:

Kahi Diep:
Esme Tran:

The Story:

I enjoyed Khai and Esme’s story very much. It opened very somberly and it took me a while to make the connection back to The Kiss Quotient but it was fun after that. It’s so good to get to know adult Khai as we only get a glimpse of him in TKQ. You can tell he has a family who loves him very much and his mom is outstanding.

The Kiss Quotient
The Kiss Quotient - Helen Hoang
The Kiss Quotient, Book 1

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series

The Characters:

Stella Lane:
Michael Phan (Lawson):

The Story:

Stella might be one of my favorite heroines of the year. Fiercely independent, stubborn as all get out, and genuinely kind and giving to those she loves. Michael is an exceptional man who would do anything for his family and his only real flaw is his name is Michael (sorry my ex’s name so it made it difficult to fall in love with him)

Overall this was quite an enjoyable read. Stella and Michael are a good couple who need to work on their communication. *insert smile here*

Black Dagger Brotherhood, Book 15.5

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series

The Characters:

Ivie:
Silas:
Rubes, (view spoiler)

The Story:

I really liked Ivie and Silas despite their instalove attraction. I felt the chemistry between then and the heart ache when we find out that Silas is ill. This was a quick visit to Caldwell but I enjoyed it.

The Proposal
The Proposal - Jasmine Guillory

The Wedding Date, Book 2

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series

The Characters:

Carlos Ibarrra:
Nicole “Nic” Peterson:
Angela “Angie”, Jesse, Drew and Alexa, Courtney, Dana

The Story:

I really love the meet cute that starts this book off. Nic is at a Dodgers game with her boyfriend Fischer having a terrible time when all of a sudden Fisher proposes on the jumbotron. Carlos and his sister Angie step in to rescue Nic after a crushing rejection and impending further embarrassment. Nic and Carlos’s relationship builds from there. I liked the fact that Nic was the commitment shy one in the relationship. I loved the friendship between Nik, Courtney and Dana. And I loved the side story of Natalie’s Gym and all the positive vibes that came from such a terrible situation.

Looking back I should have read the book and not listened to the audio. The narrator wasn’t bad but she did detract from my enjoyment of the story. But overall I really enjoyed it and am glad I don’t have to wait long for the next book.

The Wedding Date
The Wedding Date - Jasmine Guillory

The Wedding Date, Book 1

I Picked Up This Book Because: Following the hype

The Characters:

Alexa Monroe:
Drew Nicols:
Carlos

The Story:

I love Drew and Alexa together. IDC what Drew thought though most of the book there was no way he was going to make it without her. I loved their meeting in the elevator, it was too cute. I did wish Alexa had more confidence in herself and Drew’s attraction to her but not fitting into the cookie cutter image in LA can be tough oh the most confident women at first. Anyhooo I loved this couple together and routed for them during their ups and downs. Very entertaining read.

Hot Six
Hot Six - Janet Evanovich, Debi Mazar

Stephanie Plum, Book 6

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series

The Characters:

Stephanie Plum:
Joe, Lula, Ranger

The Story:

Things in Stephanie’s world never slow down. Ranger has skipped bail, Grandma has moved in and Stephanie now has to take over looking for the big sharks at the bail bond agency. This of course brings trouble for Stephanie and her sidekick Lula.

The narrator was better this time still not great with the different voices but not as distracting.

High Five
High Five - Janet Evanovich, Debi Mazar

Stephanie Plum, Book 5

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series

The Characters:

Stephanie Plum:
Joe, Lula, Ranger

The Story:

I swear Stephanie has a target on her back and a lucky rabbits foot in her back pocket. As usual, she is stalked, almost kidnapped, almost blown up and almost shot throughout this book. I’m not sure how she doesn’t spend a good chunk of her time in the hospital. It was good to see more Ranger in this book and get to know him better. I really don’t know how I feel about the way their relationship is developing because I like Stephanie with Joe as frustrating as he can be. However, I don’t get to decide. I just have to sit back and enjoy the ride.

I did not enjoy the new narrator in this book. The voices all sound about the same and her lisp is distracting. I love Debi Mazar on screen but this is not her thing.

The Random Thoughts:

It bothers me that I can only find the abridged version of these books.

Notes from a Young Black Chef
Notes from a Young Black Chef - Kwame Onwuachi, Joshua David Stein
I Picked Up This Book Because: #BlameItOnLitsy

This books starts with Kwame’s young life. The time he spent in the kitchen with his mother, his troubled relationship with his father, the time he spends in Nigeria with his grandfather. He also talks a lot about the projects that he didn’t live in but grew up in. His fall into drug life and his wake up call from that life as a young adult. While all of that is informative to his character and tells how he became the man he is today the book really grabbed my interest when he started school at the Culinary Institute of America. As someone who seriously considered attending culinary school in high school I appreciated his insights here.

The want and need to become more than what society expects from a black chef is inspiring. The world may no be ready but Kwame is so the world better get ready. Kwame is still a very young chef and he has many more great things to come in his career.

The Random Thoughts:

I was hungry the entire time I was listening to this. I hope to experience his food one day.

The Mister
The Mister - E.L. James

I Picked Up This Book Because: Had to see how this author was outside of FSoG

The Characters:

Maxim Trevelyan:
Alessia Demachi:

The Story:

A ton of things happen in this story so I won’t do a rehash as I am much too lazy however, I will say I enjoyed this book. I liked Alessia’s mysterious past. I liked her connection with Maxim even if it was insta-love. I do think she had maybe one too many obstacles to face and the book could have probably been 100 less pages with reducing the storylines but everything was resolved and they did indeed get their happily ever after.

Does anyone else

Experience problems with searching for books? Sometimes I can search by title, title + author or ISBN just to come up with no book found our a lot of the wrong book found. Then after I take the time to add the book I find it is already a part of the catalogue or if I have sometimes been successful with searching ALL of the authors books from their author page/

The Trouble with Vampires
The Trouble With Vampires (Argeneau #29) - Lynsay Sands

Argeneau, Book 29

I Picked Up This Book Because: I love this series.

The Characters:

Santo Notte:
Petronella Stone:
Margueritte Notte, Julian Notte, Parker Peters, Quinn Peters

The Story:

I find myself without much to say about this installment. I like Santo and Petronella together and I love little Parker. It will be interesting to see what happens with Pet’s twin, Quinn in the future. I’m a little behind on the overall story arc as I haven’t read the two books before this but I’m working on catching up.

Overall this was a great addition to the series. I love the characters and the wit Ms Sands always brings to her stories.

Let’s Pretend This Never Happened: A Mostly True Memoir
Let's Pretend This Never Happened: A Mostly True Memoir - Jenny Lawson

I Picked Up This Book Because: I really enjoyed her second book so had to backtrack to the first.

The Story:

I often refer to Ms Lawson’s books as the rantings of a mad woman because in truth they mostly are. But they are also windows into her soul that she chooses to share with the world and I am so thankful that she has. Her husband was featured a lot in this book and their relationship is precious and special. Ms Lawson shares stories in a way that makes you laugh but also think and feel. I hope we get a new edition in the not too distant future.

The Savior
The Savior (Black Dagger Brotherhood #17) - J.R. Ward

Black Dagger Brotherhood, Book 17

I Picked Up This Book Because: Major fan of the series

The Characters:

Murhder:
Sarah Watkins:
John Matthew:
Xhex:
Tor, Beth, Nate

The Story:

Sooo much to say. I’m going to try and keep it short for a variety of reasons. Fist thing I’m so happy to see so much of John Matthew in this book. I knew the book was about Murhder but had not gone any further because I knew I would read it no matter who it was about. Murhder was not a character I really cared about when the book started but I love him now and I’m glad he has rejoined the fold. There is so much more gushing I could do because this story was excellent but quite frankly I’m too lazy. If you’re a fan of the series you’ll love it.

What If It’s Us
What If It's Us - Becky Albertalli, Adam Silvera

I Picked Up This Book Because: Picked up on a whim

The Characters:

Benjamin “Ben” Alejo:
Arthur Suess:
Dylan, Samantha, Jesse, Ethan, Hudson, Harriet, parents

The Story:

This is a bit coming of age, a bit romantic comedy, a lot of teen angst and overall enjoyable. It took me forever to get through it and not because it was bad but it just didn’t 100% grip me. I still wanted the end of the story though and I’m glad I stuck it out until the end. Ben and Arthur have a special relationship and I think it will last a very long time in any incarnation it takes.

The Random Thoughts:

I particularly loved Dylan, he’s an awesome friend.
