Hi I'm Shannon and I'm a book-a-holic. OK so I know it is not a word but its so true. I love reading and I have a serious book buying/borrowing problem. I read everyday and there is no such thing as no time to read for me, but I always feel like there is not enough time to read.

I’ve decided to start a little Tumblr called Read With Me. It will be updates of the book(s) I am currently reading with full on spoiler reactions to the pages as I read them and perhaps a review at the end. We’ll see how this goes.  Read With Me

Eternal Beast
Eternal Beast - Laura Wright

Mark of the Vampire, Book 4

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series

The Characters:

Grey Donahue:
Dillon:

The Story:

I’m having a tough time with this one. I feel like it must have been very interconnected with book 3 but I read that back in 2013 so I remember nothing. So that aside I’ll try to stick to what I know from this story alone. The Order are jerks (mild word choice) who want to subdue the impures and annihilate the mutori. Well guess what Gray and Dillon are. Gray is not only an impure but the leader of the resistance. Dillon is one of the few mutori who have lived to maturity under the unscrupulous rule of Cruelen (this is probably spelled very wrong).

So now we have Gray fighting the order, Dillon and Gray fighting their feelings for each other. Dillon, and her brothers, struggling to hide their existence from the order. Oh and Dillon has a problem with shifting. She gets stuck as a jaguar at least twice in the book. It’s a lot and that’s to say nothing of any additional characters.

The story leaves us in a place where I want to read the next book. Hopefully it won’t take me 5 years to do so.

The Edible Cookie Dough Cookbook
The Edible Cookie Dough Cookbook - Olivia Hops

I Picked Up This Book Because: I love baking and am always looking for something new to make.

I read through this whole book in about an hour and I am so excited to get ingredients and start making away. I’ve picked out recipes for gifts. Things my nieces and nephews would like to make and there’s even a little something for the pups. These recipes look easy enough for a beginner and can be built upon for even the most senior chef to use.

I can’t wait to try out these recipes. Right now I want to make EVERYTHING.

The Random Thoughts:

Looking forward to leaving reviews for individual recipes as I try them. Probably via Twitter

Creative Quest
Creative Quest - Ahmir Questlove Thompson
I Picked Up This Book Because: Curiosity

The Story:

This book is like a class on creativity. What is it, the habits of people who have it. What you can do to get it, increase it, evolve it. As with any class I’ve ever taken there were some very interesting parts and some parts that I completely tuned out. I like to think there were more of the former but don’t ask me for specific examples.

A lot of Questlove’s learning and teachings on the subject obviously were learned from someone who creates music, however, he does explore in to the creativity of writers, chefs and even comedians. I think this book would be beneficial for anyone who is in a creative field but also anyone who is trying to figure out how they can think differently about any subject.

This is one of those books that I think you read, you try to apply it to life then you read again to see how well you interpreted it and if you need to adjust. Or maybe you will get a completely new lesson in the reread.

A Little Big Rock
A Little Big Rock - Lauren Blakely

Big Rock, Book .5

I Picked Up This Book Because: I need a palate cleanser and this should fit the bill.

The Characters:

Charlotte:
Spencer:

The Story:

First I would like to say, I need a Spencer in my life. He is seriously swoon worthy. Although I like seeing Charlotte’s POV I still feel like I don’t know here. She likes Castle, has a douchey ex and her sister teaches her Karate… I suppose that is enough.

All and all this is a prequel that leads up to the situation we work through in Big Rock. I enjoyed it but I can’t say it added anything to the main story.

The Random Thoughts:

Loved the Hamilton reference.

Single and Looking Daisy: A Funny Laugh Out Loud Feel Good Summer Read
Single and Looking Daisy: A Funny Laugh Out Loud Feel Good Summer Read - Belinda Austin

Secret Lives of Sisters, Book 1

I Picked Up This Book Because: Author’s description in my Netgalley group on Goodreads

The Characters:

Daisy:
Shakespeare the cat:
David

The Story:

For me this did not live up to the hype of the title. I could see where the author was trying to be funny but it just wasn’t my kind of humor. It struck me as Broad City humor which I just don’t like.

I found Daisy to mostly be a hot mess. Her easy acceptance of her cat talking to her leads me to believe she is mentally unstable and I drew the line at the stalker like behavior of neighbor David. Daisy should run far far away from Mr. “I just want to watch you eat” and “sip slower” #HeebieJeebies

The Rehearsal Dinner
The Rehearsal Dinner - J.R. Ward
The Wedding from Hell, Book 1

I Picked Up This Book Because:

The Characters: It’s J. R. Ward, no further explanation needed

Anne Ashburn:
Danny Maguire:
Deandra Cox, Robert “Moose” Miller

The Story:

This is the beginning of a new series for the Warden and I feel like I’m really going to enjoy it. Her voice is a bit different in this book and it will take some getting used to but it does not diminish the chemistry erupting between Anne and Danny. The tension is really building and I can’t wait until they give in.

Too Late
Too Late - Colleen Hoover

I Picked Up This Book Because:

The Characters: I’m not quite sure how I ended up on Wattpad but there I was and there was the story so…..

Sloan:
Carter/Luke:
Asa Jackson: It’s a shame that he is by all counts the villain in this story but he is also the only one who’s last name I remember
Dalton/Ryan, Jon

The Story:

I don’t even know where to begin on this one. This was so crazy and addicting. We have Asa, campus drug slinger, abused child, super smart, abusive boyfriend. Then we have Sloan, neglected child, defacto mother for disabled brother, stuck in a relationship so her brother can be taken care of. Enter Carter aka Luke, undercover officer sent in with his partner Dalton./Ryan to collect evidence against Asa, the yin to Sloan’s yang.

All I can tell you is read it. You won’t believe the things that happen. They will shock and awe you and then maybe make you cry. The drama is over the top and I like it that way.

Sweet Ruin
Sweet Ruin (Immortals After Dark) - Kresley Cole

Immortals After Dark, Book 16

I Picked Up This Book Because: Somehow I managed to skip this while reading the series

The Characters:

Jo (Josephine Doe) : (view spoiler)
Rune: Dark Fae/Demon or Bane Blood
Thaddy, Nix

The Story:

Jo has an amazing story. A poor child refuge caring for her infant brother, Thaddy, landing on earth. She manages to care for him alone until she is killed and her transformation is triggered. Rune is a big deal in the Morrior (Opposing force to the Veritas in the Accession which is imminent) They come together maybe by happenstance maybe by Nix’s devising. Rune is sent to kill Nix who just happens to be hanging out with Thaddy.

Jo an Rune have a semi complicated love/hate relationship in the beginning. Their chemistry is off the charts but neither of them has the capacity to trust. Herein lies the source of their problems.

I loved the story. Jo and “Ruin” cracked me up. It was great to see so many characters from the Lore, even if it was jsut that one scene.

Charley’s life is never boring. It’s interesting knowing how the story is going to go and now re-reading and picking up on the clues I missed the first time. I’m trying not to dwell on it but I’m really sad this series is coming to a close. I feel like I could read about Charley and co forever.

Oh Charley, even on sacred ground you can get into so much mischief. I’m glad I am doing a re-read. I had completely forgotten the drama that surrounded BEP’s birth. I still experienced a wealth of heartache at the end of the book. I knew it was coming but it still didn’t stop me. I am so ready for book nine and beyond. I’m serious, I’m ready for book 99.

If I were a parent I might not send my kid to Hogwarts. LOL Crazy things happen at this school! However these crazy things make excellent reading or in this case listening. I haven’t read this series in a very long time and I’m floored at how much I’ve forgotten or how much I remember as the movie. There are so many nuances and plot points and it’s just amazing. I look forward to the next book.

The Trouble with Twelfth Grave - Darynda Jones

Re-Read:
May 22 - May 29

I am more sad now than ever before about the wait for book #13. I completely forgot the ending of this book. Actually I think I more blocked it than forgot it I forgot the heartbreak that came with losing Amber. Here I sit in my office at work in honest pain over a fictional character that I know is alive. It happened so quickly though. I guess it’s just tough to process.

I did read a sneak peek of the next book but I feel it can only go one way. (view spoiler)
