Hi I'm Shannon and I'm a book-a-holic. OK so I know it is not a word but its so true. I love reading and I have a serious book buying/borrowing problem. I read everyday and there is no such thing as no time to read for me, but I always feel like there is not enough time to read.

I’ve decided to start a little Tumblr called Read With Me. It will be updates of the book(s) I am currently reading with full on spoiler reactions to the pages as I read them and perhaps a review at the end. We’ll see how this goes.  Read With Me

Eleven on Top
Eleven on Top - Janet Evanovich

Stephanie Plum, Book 11

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series.

The Characters:

Stephanie Plum:
Lula:
Joe, Ranger, Connie, Various people who keep trying to kill Stephanie

The Story:

Stephanie working for Ranger. That is all I can think about. Oh and Grandma Mazur’s shenanigans. That lady certainly keeps her family on their toes. I want to be just like her when I grow up.

Ten Big Ones
Ten Big Ones - Janet Evanovich
Stephanie Plum, Book 10

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series.

The Characters:

Stephanie Plum:
Lula:
Joe, Ranger, Connie, Various people who keep trying to kill Stephanie

The Story:

There was nothing all that new in this story that we haven’t seen before but I’m still so entertained. The fact that Stephanie is still alive boggles the mind.

A Bad Day for Sunshine
A Bad Day for Sunshine - Darynda Jones

Sunshine Vicram, Book 1

I Picked Up This Book Because: I’m a big fan of the author’s previous works.

The Characters:

Sunshine Blaze Vicram:
Aurora “Auri” Dawn Vicram:
Levant “Levi” Arun Ravinder (the one that got away, kinda),Cyrus and Elaine (Sunshine’s parents), Quincy Lynn Cooper (Sunshine’s BFF), Cruz De los Santos (Auri’s maybe boyfriend),

The Story:

This story started out a little uphill. New setting, all new characters and just a lot of back story to tell which is my least favorite part of any book. Honestly I love series because I don’t constantly have to meet new people, but I digress. Sun is the new sheriff, even though she didn’t run for the position, of her hometown Del Sol, New Mexico. A town that is quite frankly nuts but also very entertaining. It can also be very scary. Once the back story was told and the investigation into the missing Sybil, about 30 or so percent in, I couldn’t put the book down. So much drama but relieved with lots of comedy and genuine affection between the characters and a big does of heart.

I love the friendship between Sunshine and Cooper. And the relationship between Levi and Auri. Oh and the chemistry between Sun and Levi, please hose me down. I’m so excited for the next book and considering this one hasn’t officially been published I’m in for quite a long wait. *sigh *

Dark Illusion
Dark Illusion ('Dark' Carpathian Book 33) - Christine Feehan
Dark (Carpathians), Book 29

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series

The Characters:

Julija Brennan:
Isai Florea:
Barnabas, Anatolli (Julija’s father), Belle, Blue, Comet, Phaedra

The Story:

I used to adore Christine Feehan’s writing, the last few years however, I've found it repetitive and unnecessarily long. This book is no exception. While she creates beautiful, vivid images with her words I could do with a few less of them. The story, when you trim off the excess, was really good. Julija was trying to find a destroy a book created by Xavier and last seen with Isai’s brother. I will admit Isai’s behavior at the beginning of the book had me ready to quit but I’m glad I held on. I like him and Julija together.

The Random Thoughts:

I listened to this on CD and greatly missed the ability to speed up the dialogue like I can on digital audiobooks.

Love, Unscripted
Love Unscripted - Owen Nicholls
I Picked Up This Book Because: Netgalley cover coveted

The Characters:

Nick (never ran across a last name):
Ellie Brown:
A bunch of people who don’t seem to matter in the story. Or at least what I read of it.

The Story:

I was seduced by a cute cover and a clever title and I kinda regret it. Nick is a projectionist at a theater in the throws of an ended relationship and being laid off. This story is told in alternating chapters of the night Nick met Ellie (the relationship ender) and the present. For me the pacing was slow and the story never really got interesting. There were moments like in the garden with the shoe vomiter and when Ellie talked about her brother that captured my attention briefly but they were they were the only two I could remember in the 40% I committed to this book. I did read the final two chapters and I found the ending to be rather “blah” so I decided to call it quits rather than go back and struggle through the rest.

I had high hopes, I’m sad they didn’t work out.

I Picked Up This Book Because: Saw on Netgalley and somehow managed to not download after approval (insert devastated face here)

The Story:

I visit at least one of the scenarios in this book every day of my life. This book is so relatable for any bookworm or bookdragon. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

To the Nines
To the Nines - Janet Evanovich, Lorelei King

Stephanie Plum, Book 9

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series.

The Characters:

Stephanie Plum:
Lula:
Ranger,Joe Manelli, Connie

The Story:

Stephanie is still being Stephanie. Constant brushes with death in the pursuit of minor criminals. She has Ranger or one of his associates by her side and cause them much grief. She was able to hang on to her car though this whole installment so maybe she is growing up… or maybe the bad guys were more focused on her this time. I would like to see some more development of the minor characters in the series. It’s been 9 books, they deserve more.

I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter
I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter - Erika L. Sánchez

I Picked Up This Book Because: Heard some hype earlier this year and wanted to give it a listen

The Characters:

Julia Reyes:
Mr & Mrs Reyes:
Olga, Wanga, Conner, Lorena

The Story:

This book is a lot. It starts with the death of Julia’s sister Olga and spends some time with how the family copes but then spans over 2 years of Julia’s life. The ups, the downs, the in betweens, the secrets, the revelations, boys, friends, fights, depression and joy. Like I said a lot. Julia’s mother frustrated me the most. She came to America to afford her family opportunities that they wouldn’t have in Mexico but she only wants them in limited amounts. Julia wants the whole American dream and her ama just wants her to have a little bit. I know she is afraid considering her history however I, as no one's parent, feel like she should have spent her worry teaching her daughter to take care of herself instead of trying to keep her life small.

The writing was also a bit frustrating. It jumped it time regularly with no notice or warning and I kept feeling like I had missed something. With this happening I kept rewinding and it slowed down the pace for me. I found Julia’s story irresistible though and finished it in a reasonable amount of time.

The Emerald Sea
The Emerald Sea (The Glittering Court) - Richelle Mead

The Glittering Court, Book 3

I Picked Up This Book Because: Finish the trilogy.

The Characters:

Tamsin Wright:
Jacob “Jago” Robinson:
Mira, Adelaide, Orla, Half a dozen other characters whose names I can’t remember

The Story:

The conclusion of a whirlwind of a tale of three young ladies chosen to give up their common lives and trained to become wives of wealthy gentlemen in a new land. Tamsin, the third in the trilogy, goes through enough to have lived 6 lives. Starting with her keeping a huge secret from the girls in the court and a shipwreck and taking her through an unbelievable series of events.

This is an excellent story of adventure in a strange land and wraps up with a happy ending.

The Silent Patient
The Silent Patient - Alex Michaelides

I Picked Up This Book Because: Tonight Show Summer Reads contestant. It wasn’t the winner but it was the one I wanted to read the most.

The Characters:

Theo Faber:
Alicia Berenson:
Prof Diametes, Indira, Yuri

The Story:

Nothing is as it seems here. NOTHING. I’m left somewhat in a state of shock and I feel like it’s somewhat un-concluded. I expected this to be much more about Alicia and though it is a lot about her it’s a lot about Theo too and that threw me for the majority of the book. I will admit (view spoiler) But maybe that’s the point. As I said nothing is as it seems here from top to bottom.

Overall I suppose I liked the book even though it has left me feeling conflicted.

Blood Truth
Blood Truth - J.R. Ward

Black Dagger Legacy, Book 4

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series

The Characters:

Rhexboone “Boone”:
Helania:
Butch, Syn, Fritz, Vishous, Wrath and other various Brothers and trainees

The Story:

An excellent addition to the Legacy. It was great spending time with Butch. I hope Boone continues to work with Butch, they make a good team. I do not know what plans Ms Ward has beyond the Legacy books but I hope these characters are around for quite some time. Also what of Syn?

The Isle of the Lost: The Graphic Novel
The Isle of the Lost: The Graphic Novel - Robert Venditti, Melissa de la Cruz, Kat Fajardo

Descendants Graphic, Book 1

I Picked Up This Book Because: Novel Watching Crew September Read

The Story:

I like the idea of stories about the children of Disney villains however this particular one was just too juvenile for me. Spending time plotting revenge for being snubbed by someone for not inviting you to their birthday party is a waste of time to me.

The Random Thoughts:

The fact that I couldn’t force myself though 128 pages just further proves Graphic Novels are not for me. I keep trying, mostly because my nephew insists it’s just because I haven’t found a subject I like.

Georgina Kincaid, Book 1

I Picked Up This Book Because: Paranormal Love Crew monthly read

The Characters:

Georgina Kincaid:
Sahil Roy:
Roman, Seth, other friends

The Story:

I can not pinpoint a specific reason I can not get into this book. What I do know is I put it down after almost two months and haven’t picked it up in almost another month. I like Georgina and I have my suspicions about what is going on but I can’t make myself read and find out more. :-(

Form Twinkle, With Love
From Twinkle, with Love - Sandhya Menon

I Picked Up This Book Because: Fan of the author

The Characters:

Twinkle Mehra:
Sahil Roy:
Maddie Tanaka, Neil Roy, Skid, Aaron, Biraj

The Story:

Aspiring filmmaker Twinkle is urged by her friends to make a move for their annual Midsummer Night Festival. This story is told through diary entries made by Twinkle. I love that she writes her entries as letters to female filmmakers. While she has a clear direction of what her goals are she’s a little oblivious to the world around her. Like growing crush on Sahil or her changing friendship with Maddie. During the filming of her movie I think she learns a lot about herself and how to communicate with others.

I kind of wish this was part of a series. I would like to learn more about Maddie, Aaron and Skid.

The Characters:

The Highlander’s Promise
The Highlander's Promise - Lynsay Sands

Highland Brides, Book 6

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series.

The Characters:

Aulay Buchanan:
Jetta:

The Story:

I love Lynsay Sands and I love this series. The characters are all so perfectly flawed. Aulay with his scar and Jetta with her memory loss, even the would be murderer had a complex bit of story. I really enjoyed it.
