Hi I'm Shannon and I'm a book-a-holic. OK so I know it is not a word but its so true. I love reading and I have a serious book buying/borrowing problem. I read everyday and there is no such thing as no time to read for me, but I always feel like there is not enough time to read.

I’ve decided to start a little Tumblr called Read With Me. It will be updates of the book(s) I am currently reading with full on spoiler reactions to the pages as I read them and perhaps a review at the end. We’ll see how this goes.  Read With Me

Creative Incentives
Creative Incentives - Kit Rocha

Beyond, Book 9.1

I Picked Up This Book Because: I’m a fan of Molly Harper’s writing.

The Characters:

Ace:
Cruz:
Rachel

The Story:

A short scene involving Cruz figuring out some creative ways to entice Ace into doing his rehab. This was short and super steamy. I loved it.

TBR Thursday 2018 - February 22 2018

Books I Acquired:

A Kindle freebie. I need to get cracking on this series.

Books I Borrowed:

Borrowed from Hoopla Digital.

Books That Are Still on Their Special Must Read Shelf:

I need to get to these soon, one is due next week.

Books I Read:

Sixth Grave was a re-read.

Creative Incentives I’m having a hard time with picking an actual read lately so this little short was just what the doctor ordered.

Blood Fury I can’t say how much I love the Black Dagger Legacy/Black Dagger Brotherhood series.

Save a Truck, Ride a Redneck It was a struggle to get into this one. I blame most of it on me, I wasn’t in the mood to learn a new world. In the end I was glad I read the story.

I manage to finish 4 books this past week.

All together I have 3894 on my TBR Pile. These are books I actually own, Print, E and Audio waiting for me to pick them up and read away. (I really should leave the library alone but I just can’t help myself)

Save A Truck, Ride a Redneck
Save a Truck, Ride a Redneck (Southern Eclectic Book 1) - Molly Harper
Southern Eclectic, Book .5

I Picked Up This Book Because: I’m a fan of Molly Harper’s writing.

The Characters:

Marianne McCready:
Carl Dawson:
Pretty much all of Lake Sackett

The Story:

This book serves as our introduction to Lake Sackett, a small town in Georgia. Marianne is heading back for the summer after basically fleeing small town life and all its trappings for a pre-law degree. The main trapping being Carl Dawson.

Lake Sackett is full of characters a lot of them seem to be in the McCready family. The beginning of this book made me think about Sweet Home Alabama but the references do not carry far. While I like the characters we are introduced to there sure are a lot of them. For a story that is about 116 pages I feel like we meet a new person every other page for most of the book. I like the direction that Marianne and Carl’s story took and I see so much potential in the stories from the other characters.I look forward to the shenanigans that are sure to happen in this town.

Blood Fury
Blood Fury: Black Dagger Legacy - J.R. Ward, Jim Frangione

Black Dagger Legacy, Book 3

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series

The Characters:

Peyton:
Novo:
Ruhn:
Saxton:
Rhage, Paradise, Craeg, other members of The Brotherhood

The Story:

I’ve missed Ms Ward’s writing. I love the flow of the stories, the characters, the world she has built. Every time I take a trip to Caldwell I recall why I love it so much. Okay now that I’ve fangirled appropriately let’s move on to this story. I’m not sure if I wasn’t paying attention or what but Saxton and Ruhn were at total surprise for me. A surprise I love mind you but I didn’t see it coming. Ruhn story is so complex. He has done so much for his family. I’m glad he has Saxton to comfort him. I was so happy with Minnie’s decision in the end too. Now Novo and Peyton are the perfect smart ass couple. And I think Novo should have let Peyton punch Oscar… after the pictures of course. It was good to see Peyton grow up a bit. I think he and Novo have a fun future ahead of them.

Hunger: A Memoir of (My) Body
Hunger: A Memoir of (My) Body - Roxane Gay, Roxane Gay, Harper Audio

I Picked Up This Book Because: I saw some buzz about the book and decided to pick it up.

The Story:

Roxane’s story cannot be neatly summed up in a few words of a review. Her tale is deeply personal. There is tragedy and self depreciation. There are realizations that most wouldn’t want to admit to themselves let alone write on paper and send it out into the world. I sincerely hope her words reach someone in need of knowing they are not alone and encourage them to get the help we can all be reluctant to get (and I am not talking one bit about her weight). I hope someone reads this or shares passages of this with someone in need of taking the first step on the arduous journey of becoming happy with themselves. Not just their body but their inner self. To realize they have worth and that they deserve happiness.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Re-Read
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone - Jim Dale, J.K. Rowling

Re-Read:
February 8 - February 10 2018

I was told by a coworker that the audio version of this series was really awesome and she did not lie. I hadn’t realized it until I started listening but I’ve really missed this world of magic and mystery. It’s been quite some time since I’ve read about Harry and crew and I’m really glad to be be back. Now if only I didn’t have to wait quite so long to get the audiobooks from my library lol

The Last Black Unicorn
The Last Black Unicorn - Tiffany Haddish, Tiffany Haddish, Simon & Schuster Audio

I Picked Up This Book Because: I’ve seen Tiffany give several interviews concerning the book and her stories are just too good not to hear/read.

The Story:

Tiffany might be one of the best souls I’ve ever gotten to know a piece of in my time on this earth. The things she has been through, the abuse, the dark times and she is still willing to open her arms and love people. Love the people who hurt her dearly, even if she don’t mess with them no more she doesn’t seem to have a stitch of hate for them. You can’t tell me that is not a winning spirit.

Tiffany’s story is complex. She’s dealt with more than her share of emotional trauma but she’s made the best of it. She’s channeled her pain into a love of making people laugh. I’m so glad she followed her heart back to the comedy stage. I hope her future is nothing but love, success and joy.

The Random Thoughts:

I hope Roscoe contacts Tiffany.

Retrosexual
Retrosexual (Frisky Beavers Book 0) - Ainsley Booth, Sadie Haller

Frisky Beavers, Book 0

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continuing the series

The Characters:

Stewart: Gavin’s Chief of Staff
Adrienne:

The Story:

A sweet and sext short story reminding us that life gets busy but you should make the effort to take a time out and reconnect with your spouse(s.o.). I love that Adrienne wasn’t afraid to tell her man “hey I need a time out” and I love that he surprised her. What a fun little game and I even liked the way she flipped it on him.

Overall a great little time out from the real world for me too. I would like to see more of this couple in the future.

The Sweetest Burn
The Sweetest Burn - Tavia Gilbert, Jeaniene Frost
Broken Destiny, Book 2

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continuing the series

The Characters:

Ivy Jenkins:
Adrain:
Jasmine, Zack, Costa

The Story:

Ivy is on her second hunt for a super powerful relic that will seal all the walls to the demonic realms. Demons and minions are fought, betrayals happen (not from Adrian, thank goodness), near death experiences, revelations upon revelations, soul tethering and smoking hot sex all ensue.

I liked this story but it didn’t keep my attention like the first one. I’m anxious to hear the next chapter however my library is not cooperating.

The Beautiful Ashes
The Beautiful Ashes - Jeaniene Frost

Broken Destiny, Book 1

I Picked Up This Book Because: I am a fan of the author’s other series.

The Characters:

Ivy:
Adrain:
Jasmine, Zack

The Story:

While searching for her missing sister Ivy learns something she can barely believe. Angels and demons are real, they are battling a war and they want her. As the last ancestor of David, Ivy has the power to make or break the war for one side. The demons have kidnapped her sister to lure her to them but with the help of the Adrian (and the arcon Zack) she is off on a quest to find a weapon that will kill the demons and free her sister.

This story was fast paced, many layered and full of secrets until the very end. If I were Ivy I’d be sitting in a corner rocking. Demon realms are nasty and she has to search quite a few. There is also forbidden or love between Ivy and Adrian and I found their chemistry to be H-O-T.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. I am quite angry as I write this as I can not get the next book until tomorrow. I swear I’d be half way through it now if I could.

Sorry Not Sorry: Dreams, Mistakes, and Growing Up
Sorry Not Sorry : Dreams, Mistakes, and Growing Up - Naya Rivera

I Picked Up This Book Because: Curiosity… I guess.

The Story:

Naya has lived an interesting life. Not as wild and crazy as some Hollywood child stars but definitely different than your traditional upbringing. Going into this book I only knew Naya from her role as Santana Lopez on Glee. While listening to this book I discovered she’s been acting all her life. Turns out one of her first big rolls was a character I loved on the TV sitcom Family Matters. (Little Richie’s friend/girlfriend Gwendolyn)

Naya takes us through her memories as a young actress, a huge bout of teen angst including her struggles with anorexia, racial identity, an abortion and her ever evolving relationship with her mother. She also speaks briefly about two significant romantic relationships the most importantly her husband. Some of Naya memories are crushingly honest and I felt for her struggles.

Dirty Daddy: The Chronicles of a Family Man Turned Filthy Comedian
Dirty Daddy: The Chronicles of a Family Man Turned Filthy Comedian - Bob Saget, Bob Saget, HarperAudio
I Picked Up This Book Because: Why not hear about the person behind the infamous Danny Tanner. Also I’m really attracted to the title.

The Story:

It took some time to get used to Bob’s style of writing/thinking as he drifts when telling stories. As a result my mind did it’s on bit of drifting so I can’t say I was always paying strict attention. Bob suffered a lot of heartache at a young age. Lots of loss in his family. You will not be surprised that humor is the way he got through that loss. We learn about the terrifying birth of his daughter, his many wonderful friendships and his perspective now that he is an older man. I connected a lot more with the later part of the book and his old man ramblings.

In the end I feel like Bob values friends, values family, and feels like he has had some incredible experiences in life that he knows not everyone gets to have.
