Hi I'm Shannon and I'm a book-a-holic. OK so I know it is not a word but its so true. I love reading and I have a serious book buying/borrowing problem. I read everyday and there is no such thing as no time to read for me, but I always feel like there is not enough time to read.

I’ve decided to start a little Tumblr called Read With Me. It will be updates of the book(s) I am currently reading with full on spoiler reactions to the pages as I read them and perhaps a review at the end. We’ll see how this goes. Read With Me

The Steel Kiss
The Steel Kiss (A Lincoln Rhyme Novel) - Jeffery Deaver
Lincoln Rhyme, Book 12

I Picked Up This Book Because: 1) NOOK had this as their free serial read for March and I’ve always wanted to participate. B) I needed a book that counted a “a bestseller from genre I don’t usually read” and “a book with multiple perspectives” for my “PopSugar Ultimate Books” Challenge and “2017 Book Bingo”

The Characters:

Amelia Sachs Former model come NYPD detective.

Lincoln Rhyme: Criminologist extraordinaire and all around braniac.

The Story:

I’m a little said I didn’t get in on the first floor of this series. It’s great. The writing is captivating. Nothing was predictable. The characters were interesting and multifaceted. I really have no complaints about it at all. I can’t begin to summarize. The story had so many layers, so many connections and twist I won’t do it justice at all.

I’ll leave it at I enjoyed every single bit and I’m definitely willing to read more of this series.

The Random Thoughts:

I couldn’t stand the wait after chapter 53 and ended up borrowing the book from my library’s digital service at 11 p.m. so I could finish.

Replica
Replica - Lauren Oliver
Replica, Book 1

I Picked Up This Book Because: I’ve always been intrigued by Miss Oliver’s books, this is just the first one I’ve had a chance to pick up.

The Characters:

Lyra: A girl raised in a lab for unknown purposes, taught to believe that she is less than human.
Gemma: A girl raised by her parents as a delicate flower due to childhood and on going illnesses.

The Story:

Gemma and Lyra meet because the lab where Lyra was raised, Haven, is pretty much attacked. The why is kind of sketchy but I feel like as the story unfolds in future books we will learn more about it. So much goes on in this book, told first in Lyra’s POV then in Gemma’s that I can not give a quick summary. It was good and a bit crazy and a little scary. The story ends in a way that makes it leaves it wide open to go anywhere. I’m very ready for the next book.

The Random Thoughts:

Gemma’s obsession with her weight is irksome. Especially because in my mind she is probably a size 10 or 12 and really not as big as she has been lead to believe.

Yes My Accent is Real: and Some Other Things I Haven’t Told You
Yes, My Accent Is Real - Kunal Nayyar, Kunal Nayyar

I Picked Up This Book Because: Celebrity books have been my not so guilty pleasure for the past few months. Even though I don’t watch his show his book was highly recommended by a friend.

I loved this book. Going in I didn’t know Kunal from Adam but I’m so glad I got to know him a little bit. His stories are so intriguing. From growing up in India to moving to the states, from adjusting to school in America to starting his acting career, from his friendship with Zico to his marriage I was engrossed in every minute. The story with his dad, brother and the mouse was so close to being my favorite until he talked about meeting his wife (and forgive me I’ve forgotten her name). The mouse story was just plain hilarious but the way Kunal speaks about his wife takes my breath away. I’m in awe of his depth of feeling for her and his ability to express it in words.

I honestly hope as his life and career progress he chooses to write another book and share those next chapters with the world.

Bossy Request
Bossy Request - Lacey Silks
Reality in Each Fantasy, Book 1 I Picked Up This Book Because: Wanted a quick read for my down time at work. The Characters: Sharon: Frank: The Story: I think this book could have benefited from being a page or two longer (reported as being 22 pages there are only 13 pages of story). I get that the tension was supposed to be a buildup 5 years in the making but it still seemed rushed. The characters timelines didn’t really make any sense. He was a super mature 30 year old and she’s been working for him since she was 20? Or at least that is what I was lead to believe. One spilled coffee takes him from “hands off” to I just want to touch you and the job be damned? I just couldn’t fall for it. The Random Thoughts: The fact that I forgot I was reading this speaks volumes to my enjoyment level. The Score Card: description 2 Stars

Hot Winter Nights
Hot Winter Nights: A Bear Mountain Rescue Story (BookShots Flames) - Codi Gary, James Patterson

Bear Mountain Rescue, Book 1

I Picked Up This Book Because: Seemed like a good idea at the time.

The Characters:

Allie Fairchild: Looking for a new start lands a job as the chief administrator in Bear Mountain's trauma department
Dex Belmont: Search and rescue worker with a hero complex
Hunter “Don’t remember his last name”: Trauma surgeon looking to settle down.

The Story:

Overall okay. Not as much love triangle angst as I was expecting. To me it was pretty obvious that she was going to choose Dex from go. Their chemistry was no match for her polite interest in Hunter.

While I wasn’t wowed by this book I am intrigued enough to want to continue this series. I like the town and the characters.

The Random Thoughts:

Overall I feel kinda meh about the story but going by the scorecard it’s a 4 star read. hmmmm

Big Rock
Big Rock - Lauren Blakely
I Picked Up This Book Because: I’ve seen talk about this book in a few of my reading groups and decided to give it a go.

The Characters:

Spencer Holiday: I was on the edge of not liking him in the beginning. He’s cocky but he’s also a good guy, which redeemed him to me.
Charlotte Rhodes: I’m realizing as I type that we don’t lean much about Charlotte in this book, aside from her disdain of green gummy bears.

The Story:

I was quite entertained with Spencer’s story. I like the opportunity to ready from a male’s POV. This was fun, funny and sexy.

The Chemist
The Chemist - Stephenie Meyer, Ellen Archer, Hachette Audio
I Picked Up This Book Because: I like Stephenie Meyer’s writing.

The Characters:

Alex/Julianna/Oleander/The Chemist/Olly: This woman is so incredibly strong and brave.
Daniel Beach: Unsuspecting school teacher dragged into a world he doesn’t understand
Kevin Beach: Basically a super soldier.

Co-starring: A secret government agency. An elite army of dogs including Einstein, Lola and Khon.

The Story:

This is going to be one of those butcher reviews that are completely useless. I’m going to try to take it piece by piece and do the story some justice because it was awesome and deserves lots of praise but I may end up just a rambling idiot because the story was awesome.

The beginning is rough. Had I been reading instead of listening I would have given up. I was 5 discs (of 16) in before I was legit hooked to the story. BTW this is probably a good time to praise the narrator. She did an amazing job. Never once did she do anything to take me out of the story.

So Alex is a former government agent that has been targeted because she knows too much. She is set up in a plot to unknowingly draw out another agent in a similar situation but mistakenly kidnaps his twin brother. As well as Daniel and Alex get along, even after some torture, Kevin and Alex are total opposites. In fact they try to kill each other. After realizing they’ve been setup to do so they decide to join forces and take out the creators of the plot to take them down.

There are deaths, daring rescues, heated moments, sweet moments and all other sorts of situations I can’t even begin to describe. It’s a time consuming book but so worth it.

The Random Thoughts:

I cried when the dog got shot but not when we thought a human did, does that make me a terrible person?

I wonder if they ever went back for Lola

I hope this is never whittled down into a single move. They could never do it justice. It need to be at least 3 movies or a mini series.

Doctor Bad Boy
Doctor Bad Boy - Ainsley Booth, Sadie Haller
Frisky Beavers, Book 2

I Picked Up This Book Because: I’ve enjoyed Ainsley Booth’s writing and had to experience the follow up to Prime Minister with Sadie Hatler.

The Characters:

Max Donovan: Former child star turned pediatric doctor and Dom.
Violet Roberts: Lawyer and independent sub.

Co-starring: Gavin, Ellie, Lachlan, Beth.

The Story:

Max and Violet meet for what they assume will be a one night stand with a stranger but low and behold Max is relocating and Violet is assigned to represent his interest at his new attorney's office. A secret kinky relationship ensues.

Max and Violet’s chemistry is off the charts. I think this book dips further into kink than any other I have read. I don’t understand and see the appeal of it but the authors of this story make sure you fully understand the characters enjoyment of their scenes. For a while I thought the contact (cause there’s always a contract) between M and V were going to fall into the wrong hands and they would be exposed and have to overcome. I’m so glad I was wrong. Like really wrong. I’ll let you find out for yourself the direction of the story but I will say I’m really happy with the outcome.

The Random Thoughts:

I am more excited than words can say for book 3. That last chapter! Should I go buy it now?

Passion (Mafia Ties: Brandon & Carly) (Volume 3) - Fiona Davenport
Mafia Ties:Brandon & Carly, Book 3

I Picked Up This Book Because: Finishing the trilogy.

The Characters:

Brandon DeLuca:
Carly O’Reilly DeLuca:

Co-starring: Nic DeLuca, Ana DeLuca

The Story:

The conclusion to Brandon and Carly’s story. And maybe the conclusion of Mafia Ties. I this short installment there was a chase, a rescue, sexy times and a happily ever after. My favorite part was the epilogue. I loved the peek into the family lives of the DeLuca bunch.

Sweet Little Lies
Sweet Little Lies: A Heartbreaker Bay Novel (Heartbreaker Bay Series, Book 1) by Jill Shalvis (2016-06-28) - Jill Shalvis

Heartbreaker Bay, Book 1

I Picked Up This Book Because: Jill Shalvis audiobooks are like watching a romantic comedy in your imagination.

The Characters:

Pru (I can’t remember her last name):
Finn O'Reilly:

Co-starring: The whole town? Really there are a lot of characters. I can see this being a long lasting series and that makes me happy.

The Story:

This was a romantic comedy which I really enjoyed. I quite literally laughed out loud more than once. I was kind of sad to see it end.

Karen White does an excellent job as narrator. I wonder how she keeps all of the different character voices straight as she reads.

For 100 Nights
For 100 Nights: A 100 Series Novel - Lara Adrian

100 Series, Book 2

I Picked Up This Book Because: I’ve been exploring Lara Adrian’s books for a while now. I really enjoyed book 1 (For 100 Days) so when book 2 became available on Netgalley I dropped everything

The Characters:

Avery Ross:
Dominic “Nick” Baine:

The Story:

It’s been whirlwind 5 months for Avery and Nick. Avery seems to have secret after secret, starting with her mom serving time in jail for killing her step-father (the bastard deserved worse than death) and ending with the doozy we find out in this book. I won’t spoil it for you. Unfortunately we don’t exactly get a HEA at the end of this book but the situation is not hopeless. I think all will be reconciled in For 100 Reasons.

Overall I enjoyed this book. I did begin to only skim the sex scenes, they are a highly sexual couple so the scenes are numerous. But I liked where the story went and I am very interested in the conclusion of the series.

A Life in Parts
A Life in Parts - Bryan Cranston, Bryan Cranston
I Picked Up This Book Because: I saw Bryan on The Tonight Show talking about the book. Some of the stories seemed rather funny so I thought I should listen to it.

The Story:

I was right. Bryan is quite amusing. His deep voiced deadpan delivery makes you have to listen to catch the jokes but they are there. Books like this allow me to take my people watching to the next level. I learned a ton about his life. Bryan talked about growing up, his first sexual experience. Some very personal times with his parents and siblings. The beginning of his acting career and his time on Malcolm in the Middle and Breaking Bad and his time preparing for Broadway.

It hasn’t been an easy life but I feel like you can really tell that Bryan is appreciative of both the ups and downs.

I’m off to find out where Breaking Bad is streaming now.

Maybe, Someday
Maybe Someday - Colleen Hoover
Maybe, Book 1

I Picked Up This Book Because: Partially because the last Colleen Hoover book I read wrecked me in the very best way, partially because it is on Goodreads Top 100 Romance list and I want to read at least 10 books from this list in 2017.

The Characters:

Sydney Blake:
Ridge Lawson:

Co-starring: Warren, Bridgette, Maggie, Tori and Hunter.

The Story:

Heartache, confusion, many many tears.

Sydney and Ridge form a bond over his music. That bond continues to grow but there’s a small problem, Ridge is in a relationship with Maggie. Oh and Sydney’s trust has been torn apart by her ex boyfriend Hunter and her ex roommate Tori.

The Random Thoughts:

I need someone to put these songs to actual music so I can buy the soundtrack.

Kathy Griffin's Celebrity Run-Ins: My A-Z Index - Kathy Griffin
I Picked Up This Book Because: I’ve become obsessed with pretty much any celebrity that narrates their own audiobook. Kathy has had a long career in entertainment and I thought she might have some good stories so when I ran across this on my library’s new audiobooks shelf I snatched it up.

The Book:
There were some good stories and some not so interesting ones. Overall this book is like being backstage almost anywhere. The most memorable had to be Demi Lovato, wowzers. I’m not sorry I listened to it.

The Warlord Wants Forever - Immortals After Dark, Book 1 - Kresley Cole - 4 Stars - Nikolai Wroth, Myst the Coveted - I read this book previously as a part of Playing Easy to Get. My previous review

Forsaken by Night - MoonBound Clan Vampires, Book 2.5 - Larissa Ione- Stars - CHARACTER NAMES - I will come back to this when I read this series

Dark Swan - Otherworld Assassin, Book 2.5 - Gena Showalter - 2 Stars - Lilica Swan, Dallas Guiterrez - I’m torn on this one. I enjoyed the story overall but man it took forever for me to read it. Lilica was all things strong and loyal. Dallas is very gruff on the outside but a bit of a marshmallow on the inside. I adored his friendship with Devyn. Despite great characters I tended to fall asleep every time I picked up this book. So while I appreciate the world, the story and the delicious sexual tension between Dallas and Lilica I have to give this story a 2.

Eleventh Grave In Moonlight
Eleventh Grave in Moonlight - Darynda Jones

Charley Davidson, Book 11

I Picked Up This Book Because: I simply love Charley Davidson. I aspire to be her when I grow up, married to the son of satan and all.

The Characters:

Charley Davidson Farrow: god, dreamer, lover of coffee
Reyes Farrow: hottest fictional man on earth.

Co-starring: Cookie, Uncle Bob, Amber, Angel and a ton of others.

The Story:

Charley is, as usual, doing Charley things. Discovering secret cults, eating gods from other dimensions and finding new ways to get down and dirty with her hubby, Reyes Farrow. Seriously, how does she find herself in such human messes? I’m really liking learning about Charley’s godly side. It’s surprise after surprise.

If I’m recalling correctly Ms Jones left us on a hell of a cliff hanger. I need book twelve STAT!
