Hi I'm Shannon and I'm a book-a-holic. OK so I know it is not a word but its so true. I love reading and I have a serious book buying/borrowing problem. I read everyday and there is no such thing as no time to read for me, but I always feel like there is not enough time to read.

I’ve decided to start a little Tumblr called Read With Me. It will be updates of the book(s) I am currently reading with full on spoiler reactions to the pages as I read them and perhaps a review at the end. We’ll see how this goes.  Read With Me

Personal Delivery (Billionaire Secrets) (Volume 1) - Ainsley Booth

Billionaire Secrets, Book 1

After their first encounter is interrupted by scandal at SwiftEx Jana finds out that Jake is actually not a delivery driver but a billionaire mogul. This book was interesting and sexy and Jana and Jake’s chemistry shot sparks off the page.

Screwdrivered
Screwdrivered - Alice Clayton

Cocktail, Book 3

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series

The Characters:

Viv Franklin:
Clark Barrow:
Hank the Cowboy, Jessica

The Story:

Viv inherits a beautiful beach house from her estranged, deceased aunt. In a life changing decision Viv decides to sell her small business restore the house and live as an artist in Mendocino. Her only roadblock is Clark Barrow, town librarian and town historian giving her hell at every turn of her renovation.

Now I wanted to like Viv and I mostly did but her constant romance novel narrative/constant fantasizing got to be annoying. I’m reasonably sure this was exasperated by the narrator's endless breathy voice and panting. It got old quick. I loved Viv’s passion when it came to arguing with Clark. It annoyed me that it took her so long to see thats where the good stuff was and to stop mooning over Hank. I can’t recall ever hearing why Hank and Clark had the kind of relationship they did. Was it just leftover hard feelings from school? I feel like Clark would be the kind of guy to mature past that by now.

Overall even though it was a great story I think I would have enjoyed it more by reading it instead of listening to it. I loved this town and the people in it. I also loved getting a visit from Caroline and Simon.

If Someone Says “You Complete Me” RUN!
If Someone Says You Complete Me, RUN!: Whoopi's Big Book of Relationships - Whoopi Goldberg
I Picked Up This Book Because: 92% the title, 8% Whoopi

The Story:

This book gave me some new thoughts and confirmed a lot of conclusions I had already come to in my own life. Interspersed with humor and a bit of sarcasm this doesn’t really read as a self help book. It is not at all “you should be doing this or that” like. It is very much “hey these are my experiences and learnings from life maybe they can help you”

I love how Whoopi explores being honest with yourself and those around you. Determine the important things in your life then go about them in the way that you want to.

The Random Thoughts:

”Take responsibility for yourself, and don’t expect someone else to do it for you.”

”You have to be a complete person before you can commit to anyone else.”

”We all want to be accepted, to be loved, sometimes so badly that we let things slide. But you let things slide for too long and soon enough you are living a lie.”

”The most important thing is that you have to listen to your truths, desires and wants. And you have to believe you deserve all of it.”

Ice Planet Barbarians
Ice Planet Barbarians: The Complete Series: A SciFi Alien Serial Romance - Ruby Dixon

Ice Planet Barbarians, Book 1

I Picked Up This Book Because: Group read with my online book club.

The Characters:

Georgie Carruthers:Abducted human,
Vektal: Chief of the Not-Hoth
Other abducted girls

The Story:

This one took a lot. I was so disinterested in the first few parts (chapters) because the kidnappers were terrible. There was no consent when the main characters meet. (view spoiler) It was just all uncomfortable and really made me want to walk away from the book. Since this was a group read for my online book club and I had read many glowing reviews I kept going… inch by inch.

I won’t say I came to like the book but I did like Georgie and Vektal’s bond in the end. I’m curious about how the others get along with the aliens but I’m not sure if I’ll be continuing the series.

The Random Thoughts:

If I never hear the “word” Kuhi again it will be too soon.

Rescue My Heart - 3 Stars - I have no memories from this book. That can’t be good.

Ice Planet Barbarians  - 3 Stars - It took a very long time for me to get on board with this one. Once I got there it wasn't terrible.

DNF:

Currently Reading:

Ice Planet Barbarians - Ruby Dixon - I’ve put this book down with the intention to DNF twice yet I keep picking it back up. Maybe because it’s a group read maybe because I’m curious, I’m not sure.

Make It Easy, Cupcake: Fabulously Fun Creations in 4 Simple Steps: Sample Pages
Make It Easy, Cupcake: Fabulously Fun Creations in 4 Simple Steps - Alan Richardson, Karen Tack

I Picked Up This Book Because: To feed my baking addiction.

I didn’t realize I was only receiving sample pages when I requested this book from Netgalley, silly me for not reading the full title. While I think this is probably a great book the version I received has some formatting issues that make it hard to follow. The ingredients list seem to be mixed into the text and the pictures seem to be behind the instructions. Once I figured this out I could look at the picture then go back to the instructions, weed out the ingredient lines and it all made sense. I love the ideas highlighted in this portion. The cookout/BBQ cupcakes are so cute and so inspired. I would love to give some of these designs a try in the future.

Trophy Husband
Trophy Husband - Lauren Blakely

Caught Up In Love, Book 3

I Picked Up This Book Because: Random selection from my Kindle Library.

The Characters:

McKenna:
Chris McCormick:
Hayden, Julia, Lena

The Story:

I really enjoyed the last Lauren Blakely books I read however if this one had been the first one, I probably wouldn’t read anymore of here books. I want to be clear that this book was not bad. It was well written, it had humor and sexy time and characters I actully liked. The major deterrent for me is how much McKenna still thought about her ex. It has been 18 months since he had lefter by the alter and though I haven’t been in that position I say it’s high time she stops giving him so much brain space. (view spoiler)

I enjoyed McKenna’s interactions with Chris. I think they had great chemistry and will make a great couple. I also liked McKenna’s friends and I loved little Lena.

When Dimple Met Rishi
When Dimple Met Rishi - Sandhya Menon

I Picked Up This Book Because: I’ve heard good things.

The Characters:

Dimple Shaw:
Rishi Patel:
Celia Ramirez, Ashish Patel, Amber-zombies

The Story:

This is a very cute tale of first love or should I say unwanted first love in the case of Dimple Shaw. Dimple has goals and no way is she letting the expectations of her mother (who wants her to use college find a husband then start a family) stand in the way. She is a web developer in the making. On her way to Stanford but completing a summer program called Insomnia-Con (I don’t get this name, is it a real con?) Rishi comes to Insomnia-Con to meet Dimple through the machinations of their parents. Rishi is determined to be the perfect Indian son. He is going to secure his prospect for a wife then it’s off to MIT where he will follow in his father’s engineering footsteps, marry said secured wife and live happily ever after. What he didn’t count on is Dimple. Not only does she not know about this setup she doesn’t want it.

I feel like I got a better understanding of Indian/Indian American culture and I got very connected to these characters. I spent a chapter crying right along with Dimple.

Dimple and Rishi have a very cute story, however, I have to recognize there’s nothing groundbreaking going on here. In fact parts of it were quite predictable. Did that change my level of enjoyment? Not one bit. I had a great time at Insomnia-Con with Dimple and Rishi and I hope one day we learn more about Celia and Ashish.

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series.

The Characters:

Holly Reidt:
Adam Connelly:
Jade Bennett, Dell Connelly

The Story:

I love the residents of Sunshine. I won’t say I was thrilled with this couple. Their back and forth wishy washiness got rather tiring however I do think they are well suited.

Throughout the book Jade promises her family she is coming back home but as her confidence and relationship with Dell grows I think any reader can tell that’s not happening.

Sixth Grave was a re-read.

Creative Incentives I’m having a hard time with picking an actual read lately so this little short was just what the doctor ordered.

Blood Fury I can’t say how much I love the Black Dagger Legacy/Black Dagger Brotherhood series.

Save a Truck, Ride a Redneck It was a struggle to get into this one. I blame most of it on me, I wasn’t in the mood to learn a new world. In the end I was glad I read the story.

I manage to finish 4 books this past week.
