This Is Just My Face: Try Not to Stare - Gabourey Sidibe

I Picked Up This Book Because: The title. It’s too funny.

The Story:

As I should have guessed from the title Gabourey is hilarious. Even the less than sunny aspects of her life are told with wit and style. Her experience as a half Senegalese half southern American child raised in New York City is fascinating. She speaks of a lot of family situations that are familiar to me yet a lot that are not. We learn about her relationship with her mother and father, strained as they might be at times, with herself and with her body. Gabourey’s challenges in life and the way she accepts them and overcomes them is encouraging.
