Hi I'm Shannon and I'm a book-a-holic. OK so I know it is not a word but its so true. I love reading and I have a serious book buying/borrowing problem. I read everyday and there is no such thing as no time to read for me, but I always feel like there is not enough time to read.

I’ve decided to start a little Tumblr called Read With Me. It will be updates of the book(s) I am currently reading with full on spoiler reactions to the pages as I read them and perhaps a review at the end. We’ll see how this goes.  Read With Me

Top Secret Twenty One
Top Secret Twenty-One - Janet Evanovich

Stephanie Plum, Book 21

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series

The Characters:

Stephanie Plum:
Joe Morelli:
Carlos “Ranger” Manoso:
Grandma Mazur, Lula, Connie, Tank,

The Story:

Stephanie takes on the terrorist, who happens to also be a psychopath out to torture and kill Ranger. Ranger mentions he sometimes thinks about marrying Stephanie. Stephanie somehow saves not only her own tail but Ranger’s and a gang of convention goers (view spoiler)

I’m to the point of purposely waiting to check out the next book as I know the end (end of what is already published) is coming.

Get a Life, Chloe Brown
Get A Life, Chloe Brown - Talia Hibbert

The Brown Sisters, Book 1

I Picked Up This Book Because: I liked the cover

The Characters:

Chloe Brown: I loved Chloe so much! She is so delightfully weird
Redford “Red” Morgan: The way this man loves, understands and needs Chloe is everything. I will be single until I meet my Red.
Dani Brown, Eve Brown, Gigi, Annie, Vik (I would have liked to see more Vik)

The Story:

I’ve been crap at writing reviews lately and I love this book so much I want to give it the ode it deserves but I just don’t have the words or motivation (I blame motivation on Covid) I’ll just say that Chloe and Red have worked their way into my top 10 couples… maybe even top 5.

Stephanie Plum, Book 20

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series

The Characters:

Stephanie Plum:
Joe Morelli:
Carlos “Ranger” Manoso:
Grandma Mazur, Lula, Connie, Tank,

The Story:

So I made the mistake of reading this book and 20 very close together and now I can’t remember what happened in which book. Either way I’ve enjoyed both and now I have to deal with the fact that I’ve almost caught up and IDK what I’m going to do without Stephanie and her spirited incompetence and bad, or maybe actually good since she continues to live though these circumstances, luck.

Blame It On Bianca Del Rio: The Expert on Nothing with an Opinion on Everything
Blame It On Bianca Del Rio: The Expert On Nothing With An Opinion On Everything - Bianca Del Rio

I Picked Up This Book Because: It’s Bianca.

The Story:

So I once again jumped in both feet first on a book I knew absolutely nothing about. I didn’t see the subtitle until after the audiobook started. I didn’t realize I was signing up for 4+ hours of absolutely terrible and rarely funny advice. I know Bianca leans towards being an insult comic and in small doses it’s hilarious but for me it got old quick. I powered through and listened to the whole thing while plugging away at work. I kinda just wanted to get it over with. It breaks my heart because she is a talented queen and I wanted to love this book but if there’s anything I’ve learned in life it’s that you can’t love them all. Oh well.

If I Never Met You
If I Never Met You - Mhairi McFarlane

I Picked Up This Book Because: Cute cover

The Characters:

Laurie:
Jamie Carter:

The Story:

Entertainment: This story was just okay for me. I found it predictable and I could barely understand the narrator at times which always kills the enjoyment of a book.
Characters: I didn’t like Laurie. She became one of those women at the end of a relationship that I can’t stand. Jealous, snoopy and intent on revenge. I get that people work through things differently but it just made me roll my eyes way too much.
Plot: Again it was fine but nothing fresh or new or even a fresh twist. Of course the fake relationship was going to turn real, of course they were going to stumble when they decided it was real, of course there would be resolution.
Writing Style/Voice: There is nothing to complain about here. Technically fine writing and good pacing.
Overall: I’m left a bit underwhelmed. I know I’m in the minority of thinking this was not the next great love story but it was a pleasant enough way to spend time.

is the Shelve It feature not working anymore? I've tired with two books and I just get taken to my dashboard.

Name Drop: The Really Good Celebrity Stories I Usually Only tell at Happy Hour
Name Drop: The Really Good Celebrity Stories I Usually Only Tell at Happy Hour - Ross Mathews

I Picked Up This Book Because: How could I not, especially when he was narrating.

The Story:

Mr Mathews is such a kind sweet soul and he’s so funny. I would love to be his friend and be invited to every happy hour and dinner party. And you know I downloaded the pdf and will be partaking in a few of his cocktails and rossipies.

The Random Thoughts:

I am ashamed at how long it took me to listen to this. This shutdown has me spending almost no time in my car.

Stephanie Plum, Book 18

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series

The Characters:

Stephanie Plum:
Joe Manelli:
Carlos “Ranger” Manoso:
Grandma Mazur, Lula, Connie, Tank,

The Story:

Well the ending certainly lived up to the name. I would expect little else when you include Lula and a rocket launcher. This is the first time in a while I finished a book feeling unfinished. A cliffhanger vibe if you will. It’s okay though I already have 19 downloaded on my phone.

Oh and I want to be just like Grandma Mazur when I grow up.

Autoboyography
Autoboyography - Christina Lauren

I Picked Up This Book Because: I judged a book by it’s cover.

The Characters:

Tanner Scott:
Sebastian Brother:
Autumn

The Story:

I judged a book by it’s cover and lost. This cover snagged my attention months ago and with the hype of the author’s I just knew it was going to be a good one. I was so wrong. Tanner’s constant overthinking was annoying. The lack of anything happening disappointed me. And the endless metaphors and religion talk had me begging to be saved from the monotony. I made it to 52% then tried to read the last chapter and failed. I just couldn’t. It is so disappointing when a DNF is your first experience with an author.

The Random Thoughts:

DNF = no rating

Stephanie Plum, Book 17

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series

The Characters:

Stephanie Plum:
Joe Manelli:
Carlos “Ranger” Manoso:
Grandma Mazur, Lula, Connie, Tank,

The Story:

Stephanie will be Stephanie. As inadequate of a bounty hunter as she is she really is a smart girl with good instincts except when it comes to Ranger and Joe. I think we all feel like Joe is going to be her end game so with that said can I have Range?

I've been struggling so hard with this book. I like the characters but so much of their identities are manifested in their religion or lack there of.

The Preacher’s Son, Book 3

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series.

The Characters:

Shea Harley:
Tre McNabb:
Other residents of Little Bridge Island

The Story:

My goodness these two could not take 3 steps without having sex. It was seriously just too much. Any bit of story was overshadowed by sex. Also what dumb decision making. Why steal the ex husband's car? What about her car? Just unexplainably dumb. I was enjoying the series but this book really put a dent in that.

Eight Little Faces
Eight Little Faces: A Mom's Journey - Kate Gosselin

I Picked Up This Book Because: See below.

The Story:

I vaguely remember wanting to read this when it was published as I am fascinated by large families like these (blame that on being raised an only child) but I couldn’t find it in the library. So, of course, when I ran across this recently I had to snatch it up. I have to say I’m pretty underwhelmed with this. I’m not sure what I was expecting but it wasn’t a topic, a blurb and a scripture. I think I wanted something more personal and this is really far from that to me. It borders on cliche. Oh well win some lose some.
